If they didn’t just eject him but handed him over to the cops, it may be a while before he’s watching Stoke again. fuck me wanting your own fans arrested for a smoke bomb, it’s football ffs ever likely the kids are how they are with the current state of the world Please don't misrepresent what I said. I didn't say that I wanted him arrested. I did say that if the stewards handed him over to the police, which is what usually happens when a fan is ejected for allegedly committing a criminal offence, it is likely that he will get a conviction and a football banning order (quite apart from any action Stoke City might take against him). Just for the record I and colleagues in the FSA sometimes have to spend time supporting and advising, and pleading mitigation for, fans, including stokies, who have been arrested and charged and/or have action taken against them by their club, even when they are guilty as charged, particularly young fans who have lessons to learn, and often encourage clubs and the police to take a rehabilitative approach. I said in my first post that I don't want myself or our FSA colleagues to have to do that again for stokies throwing smoke bombs. Please read what I say before aggressively responding, with or without 'f' words.

To be fair you could say the same re anything at football. Banners...it's a banner , were all grown up do we need them? Singing, we're all grown ups, do we need people singing? Scarves...clapping...walk out music....do we need it? Smoke bombs are very much a part of football in some countries and have been for decades. The flag Celtic created looked excellent and to be fair was away from supporters and before kick off . Banners, singing, scarves, clapping don't obscure the actual game i've come to watch. I don't go to a footy match so i can see 70 mins and miss the rest because some fucking manchild is, for some reason in the 21st century, still in awe of smoke and fire. Singing, scarves, clapping also show your support for the club and players whilst they're playing (kinda the point of support really isn't it?). How precisely does one person just obscuring everyone else's view with smoke, so they can think they're cool around their group of mates add to any kind of support in any way? It shows absolutely nothing to me, other than they're a bunch of adults who haven't matured past the age of 8 or 9 and still giggle and get excited at bloody fireworks. I expect they'd also be happier with jelly and ice cream at half time than a pie and pint. Without even bringing up safety concerns amd health issues etc. (which many have already mentioned), getting all excited and giggly by fireworks and thinking they make you look cool is just something most grown adults actually grow out of. Have yet to see anyone get giggly and I grew out of singing on a bus on a trip to Phoenix Park when about 6 but some not grown out of it. Maybe they need jelly and ice cream also and think they're cool, an not sure will leave that for you to assess. Of course throwing them etc is a safety issue, no one has denied that. Throwing anything is.

I'd definitely have some jelly and ice cream at half time if it was available* Why aren't Stoke offering such a thing? Yet another area in which the club is lightyears behind others. *after my pie and pint, obvs. I'm not some kind of poofter.

Please read what I say before aggressively responding, with or without 'f' words. I should just add that sometimes we are contacted by parents who are worried and horrified that their son ( and it nearly always is a son not a daughter) has been arrested and may be banned with possible employment consequences as well. “ …..can you help him………he’s a good lad really……….just got over excited…….. didn’t realise it is against law………..wouldn’t hurt anybody…………” And our caseworker and/or our solicitor has to go in to bat in a club hearing or court to argue mitigation. We sometimes try to get a reasonable good behaviour agreement as an alternative to a ban - a yellow rather than a straight red if you like. And if we succeed the young fan and his parents can be very grateful- lesson learned!

You've got to admit when done right in mainland Europe they can look impressive? Unfortunately the youth of this country don't do it right and end up just making themselves look like dicks and possibly endangering vulnerable fans. Like I said above, I'll openly admit I tried it once, realised it wasn't all that and haven't bothered since. The difference is, in Europe they have designated sections, housing the fans that want to be a part of such activities, it's just not part of our culture and never will be and so we end up with unfortunate threads like this one. I've been in camp Nou (back when we all just called it the Nou camp) when they were set off. Heard thousands down at the front cheering (again, i still don't get why grown adults would get excited by a fucking firework anyway), all it meant to the thousands sitting further back was that we couldn't see any of the actual match for the next 15 minutes due to the smoke. So, no i don't think they are "impressive" at any footy match. They only seem to be impressive for the few that set them off (and those watching on TV) and who don't give a shit about several thousand others who've paid to actually watch the game. It's a bloody firework....and? Seriously, we're grown ups aren't we? "Ooooh....aaaaahhh...what an atmosphere, maybe we'll get a catherine wheel next!" Are you autistic or something

Not to tar everyone with the same brush, but they were of bunch of 30 odd lads id say that looked 18-21, they had at least 3 smoke bombs, all stood in the middle of the gangway, went piling everywhere after we scored, i was just about lucky to miss one of the lads flying at me, and then the flairs came, red all over my jeans, and I was out of there, asked a steward to be moved and its an absolute joke.
Ended up going and sitting at the front on the other side. I get people want to have fun, but do we not go to watch the football? The younger ones nowadays don't actually seem to care about the football, but just the piss up and doing as many stupid things that there mates think are funny.
Like I said not to tar everyone with the same brush, when I was younger people would go, but then have a fight after with the others wanting a fight, now they just want to look hard and just endanger others there for the football.
I was not impressed, and still not really, it just smacks of selfishness. Its not fun, its not big, its not clever. Anyone that thinks it is, karma will get you one day

Is this the reason there are more sniffer dogs at games these days? At the Brum game and a couple of others there have been at least 3 "Dog Unit" vans (private contractors?) with the doggos being prepped to go in about an hour before the game. I parked next to one the other week and noted to the bloke with them that his 2 labradors were very quiet and well-trained. He said "Yeah, they're Bomb dogs - calmer than normal patrol dogs". I didn't ask if they were actually sniffing for explosives or if they can pick up pyro scent as well - but I wonder now.

Similar smell anyway I would have thought.

Two penalties for a smoke bomb in a football ground.
1. Life ban from any future matches. 2. Smoke bomb chucked into the person’s house so they can smell the stench for a few days.
These lethal devices are only a whisker away from killing someone with asthma. They are not funny, they are not a jape, they are not a game.
