Someone setting one off in the concourse BEFORE the game, managed to close down all of the kiosks as the smoke triggered the sensors which automatically brought down the shutters so no one could get anything at all, warm day could have been dangerous with all the alcohol consumed and no way of getting liquid down you. I don't get them at all, but it's a special kind of twat that sets them off in enclosed spaces or throws them into a crowd of people. Fucking idiots Something about concourses that transforms grown men into complete idiots. And the sudden urge to spend £5 on a bottle of beer then waste the whole bottle.

Can we not just go back to waving blow up Pink Panthers around? Halcyon days! Bring back bog roll streamers and newspapers cut into thousands of little squares I say! Ejected from Bramhall Lane in the 60s for throwing a bog roll.

Took a flare to West Brom away a few years back, set it off after we scored, dropped it by our feet so as not to be caught holding it, would never have dreamt of throwing it in to an unsuspecting part of the crowd, that's literally braindead behaviour.
Had a decent effect for a few seconds but then all felt a bit meh.
Haven't bothered since.

They are banned so shouldn't be there in the first place so it wouldn't have been knocked out of his hand. They need to do what they do with some MLS clubs. Have certain sections of the grounds designated for the use of pyro. They are for emergency use not for show, also illegal to set off in anything other than a emergency.

gets people involved, unlike the useless fans sat down at the front.. stand up and make some noise Trying to figure out how best to respond to your absolutely derogatory, insulting & just idiotic well off the mark claims! Don't quite think you'd understand a sarcastic reproach, nor a serious adult conversation about it but here goes with the latter! I'm presuming by fact your fresh out the box on here you are young & possibly either one of the cowardly pyro throwers yourself or know lads who do it & laugh along with them thinking you're all ace & great atmosphere creators! Take it from me, who could be classed as a veteran Stoke fan since the early 80's, they are as annoying as f**k & as for getting people Involved, behave and grow up as your comment just doesnt make any sense whatsoever! Throwing them into crowds of people not knowing what effects it could have on them isn't getting people involved other than pissing them off & potentially injuring, or making someone very poorly if suffering from breathing type issues or conditions. If Pyros are so good at atmosphere creating then the initial holder should keep hold and proudly wave them around and create a smoke/light show for the crowds who think they're a great idea to take to the game with them! But no they would never do that as they know they'd got collared, dragged out by the stewards & face either arrest or subsequent match bans! Awesome consequence for having fun and creating an atmosphere hey?! & just for the record I'm one of the 'useless' ones you refer to who unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control a few years ago have to sit at the front for away matches now due to a disability that prevents me standing for long periods, & unable to create an atmosphere like the 'True Supporter' type you bizarrely refer to in your post! Believe me there is some folk who sit down the front who are far more inspirational supporters than any of those who throw pyros and those standing watching who think it's cool to throw them! I've met a few fans these last few years who are quite literally awe inspiring and the fact they follow Stoke all around the country despite some debilitating conditions, well its just shameful you refer to them as 'useless'! Feel free to PM me and I'm more than happy to discuss this matter with you further. Could either meet on a match day & have a proper adult chat about it if you'd prefer. Agree 100% with your post apart from when you offer to meet and have adult chat i get the impression that might be a bridge to far for him after reading the garbage he has spouted.

I was a few rows from the back at Ewood Park. A lad in front of me, about 17 years old, set a red one off when we scored. He just stood there with it in his hand for several minutes until it burnt itself out. Just before half time Stewards appeared on the steps, pointing him out. At half time they asked him to leave with them, which he did with no bother. Utter stupidity

Jesus Christ didn’t know we had this many fannies, it’s a bit of fun and creates an atmosphere.. bet you love to sit down in silence. you should try European games you’d hate it! You clearly don't suffer from the breathing problems which many in this area (pits, pots etc) do. Or any sense!

My simple question is, why does anyone over the age of about 8 think that any kind of firework or pyro device is "impressive" or "cool"? If any of the advocates for smoke bombs could explain, it'd genuinely be appreciated as i'm stumped.
Even at firework displays, most adults simply go for their kids' sake, not because they as grown adults are amazed and in awe of them "Ooh fire, wow impressive" in 2022? Really?? Bizarre.
Maybe we should all take sparklers as well to REALLY get the atnosphere going eh?

Unfortunately the youth of this country don't do it right and end up just making themselves look like dicks and possibly endangering vulnerable fans. Like I said above, I'll openly admit I tried it once, realised it wasn't all that and haven't bothered since. The difference is, in Europe they have designated sections, housing the fans that want to be a part of such activities, it's just not part of our culture and never will be and so we end up with unfortunate threads like this one.

I've been in camp Nou (back when we all just called it the Nou camp) when they were set off. Heard thousands down at the front cheering (again, i still don't get why grown adults would get excited by a fucking firework anyway), all it meant to the thousands sitting further back was that we couldn't see any of the actual match for the next 15 minutes due to the smoke. So, no i don't think they are "impressive" at any footy match. They only seem to be impressive for the few that set them off (and those watching on TV) and who don't give a shit about several thousand others who've paid to actually watch the game. It's a bloody firework....and? Seriously, we're grown ups aren't we? "Ooooh....aaaaahhh...what an atmosphere, maybe we'll get a catherine wheel next!"

Scarves...clapping...walk out music....do we need it? Smoke bombs are very much a part of football in some countries and have been for decades. The flag Celtic created looked excellent and to be fair was away from supporters and before kick off .

The flag Celtic created looked excellent and to be fair was away from supporters and before kick off . Banners, singing, scarves, clapping don't obscure the actual game i've come to watch. I don't go to a footy match so i can see 70 mins and miss the rest because some fucking manchild is, for some reason in the 21st century, still in awe of smoke and fire. Singing, scarves, clapping also show your support for the club and players whilst they're playing (kinda the point of support really isn't it?). How precisely does one person just obscuring everyone else's view with smoke, so they can think they're cool around their group of mates add to any kind of support in any way? It shows absolutely nothing to me, other than they're a bunch of adults who haven't matured past the age of 8 or 9 and still giggle and get excited at bloody fireworks. I expect they'd also be happier with jelly and ice cream at half time than a pie and pint. Without even bringing up safety concerns amd health issues etc. (which many have already mentioned), getting all excited and giggly by fireworks and thinking they make you look cool is just something most grown adults actually grow out of.
