Surridge was going out on loan until Forest said they wanted to buy him. Imagine expecting a professional footballer, on thousands of pounds a week, to be able to pass a ball. Surely that is too much to ask. Call the PFA immediately.

Another one we nearly signed.
(although I bet he's pleased it didn't happen)

re Harrison, I forgot that we actually offered up to £11m for him - although it looks like we initially thought we'd got him for £3.25m before Pep stuck his oar in And all this was under Lambo - although it must've been Carto pulling the strings. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-transfer-news-jack-harrison-1097256Jack Harrison is on the verge of returning back to the Potteries to sign for Stoke City , the Sentinel understands. The Potters have stepped that up by putting in a bid for the forward, thought to be in the region of £3.25m. That could rise to more than £4m based on future clauses. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/pep-guardiola-moved-scupper-7m-1146537Pep Guardiola believes Jack Harrison could be a potential first-team player for Manchester City, and that is why he scuppered Stoke’s bid to sign the England under-21 player . The Potters had looked to be in the box seat to seal a deal for the MLS starlet, and we can exclusively reveal they offered £7m up front for the New York City winger rising to a potential £11m depending on his success at the bet365 Stadium. But Manchester City, who effectively own the MLS side, stepped in to sign Stoke-born Harrison on a three-and-a-half year deal for what is thought to be a much lower fee… and then loaned him out to Middlesbrough.

Wouldn't think we'd have much trouble seeing off Millwall and Preston if they are the chief rivals

When does the window "Slam shut" 🙄 this time around, with it being an early start for the EFL clubs?

Have to be in the box seat for that one and would be an upgrade, should have signed him last year.

30 in a couple of weeks. Thought he was a bit younger than that
Certainly one of the better Bosmans knocking about at right-back though, especially if you're looking at wing-backy ones.

This was a thread on the Derby board back in Feb/March dcfcfans.uk/topic/39300-nathan-byrne/Yeah, couldn't really argue with him as an upgrade. I don't think every signing has to be some 21yo 'project' to develop. It's about getting some battle-hardened, seasoned pros in who can be part of a challenging team - especially when noone's got money to spend and the Bosman bucket isn't overflowing with options

Seems to have played mainly as a RB in a flat back four for most of last season so if he is a target that is encouraging.

Wouldn't think we'd have much trouble seeing off Millwall and Preston if they are the chief rivals Didn't Preston pip us to that Scottish midfielder? McCann? Not sure how seriously we were in for him in the end though. O'Neill was pretty adamant he wouldn't be coming 2-3 weeks before he ended up at PNE. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-transfers-liam-delap-5784671But asked if there’s anything in the speculation, O’Neill told StokeonTrentLive: “No, there’s nothing in that" “I am constantly linked with players in Scotland because I lived there for a time. “I obviously know Ali. He only started to emerge as I was coming to the end of my reign with Northern Ireland before stepping into this job but he’s a young and talented player who is getting a lot of rave reviews, but at this moment in time it’s not something we’re actively pursuing.”

Supposed Free Agents this summer: Jack Cork - DM - Burnley £38,000 (that’s a no then) Lee Buchanan - LB - Derby - £1,000 Nathan Byrne - RB - Derby - £11,000 Josh Koromo - ST - Huddersfield - £3,500 George Honeyman - AM - Hull - £6,000 Sean Morrison - CB - Cardiff - £25,000 Dom Ball - DM - QPR - £6,250 Would be unlikely to result in an overspend, wages are probably within budget (minus Cork/Morrison) and would fill many of the gaps in the squad. I know in reality it doesn’t work like that and we’ll probably end up spending on lower league players but these guys know the league, and are experienced without being ancient (Cork being the oldest). Pie in the sky I know but in an ideal world I’d like these players please 😂 Jack Cork and Sean Morrison’s salaries (shown as per week at the end of each line) would need to drop very dramatically so they might well be priced out,but the rest, on similar or reduced terms would be within reach, especially having cut the wage bill with the releasing of several players. Get Byrne signed up 😉

I think people really have to lose this phobia about players pushing 30 - with modern training and medical advances previously healthy players are not in the knackers yard at 32 - and if you can get 3 or 4 years out of any player it’s a good deal.

Why who’s doing well fielding any more than a couple of older players?

Byrne is a good right back or wing back but he gets beat quite a bit in the air and on the back stick.

Wouldn't surprise me if Luke Freeman rocked up here, can play left wing or centrally and has hardly played the last two seasons, was a useful player at Bristol City & QPR though.
