He can do it, but just not as well as a RB/RWB. If we go 4 at the back, then it's a choice of Flint or Jags to partner Souttar (bearing in mind we only have Jags til the end of the year). With 3 at the back, I'd put Wilmot on the right of the three. Would deffo not have Flint on the left and Jags could do a job there, but we really could do with a left-sided CB (ideally a left-footed one). WhAt about Clucus playing left sided Centre back? Has all attributes and get some use out of him. We've complained about square pegs and round holes for donkeys. Why the hell would we play Clucas there?! Jags on the left, Harry or Flint in the middle and Wilmot on the right. We still need another out and out CB for cover IMO. With Fox able to cover the left of needed, and Clarke able to cover the right

Not particularly quick, not particularly strong, not great in the air for someone his height, not the best at tackling, not the best reader of the game……he is left footed though.

Don't think he'll end up here. I'm not sure he's the answer if we're playing wing-backs anyway? Although he's played there, his strengths seem defensive rather than offensive. He must have something lined up though if he's removed the Blackburn back-up option (and we know we were in for him last summer when we were also well into the wing-backs) Byrne seems maybe more likely, but this Derby contract mess is complicating it. I can't see how we can go in with Wilmot and Duhaney as the back-up options when the front-line option is himself something of a gamble

I just see him as having better options than us. West Brom have been mooted as a possible destination and can see that.

Makes more sense there as they're apparently switching to a back four next year, where he's a better fit. But their current right-back, Furlong, isn't bad. Nyambe doesn't really seem the answer at wing-back if that's what we're doing, but as the right in the three, maybe. Guess we'll see what the plan is (if we've got one)

Interesting poll from Homzy.
I like Sawyers, but can't see how he could play in the same XI as Powell.
I'd have to go with JPB - but if we're going to be largely wing-backs, he wouldn't fit

It's nothing to do with the formations it's a managers version of them. MON's idea of 352 isn't Antonio Conte's. Just as MON's version of 433 isn't Jurgen Klopp's. If you've noticed the theme MON's version of anything is considerably more conservative than the successful version. It does help make your point when you compare him to two of the best managers in the world right now and find him wanting. Really am I comparing him to those managers in any meaningful way other than the fact he’s too conservative, too timid to emulate their successful use of a certain formation. He also falls way below them in numerous other aspects but accepting that they are exceptional in their field I’d not expect him to measure up but simply just growing a pair should be relatively easy to emulate and indeed he already proved he could by his approach in his first half season when staring down the barrel.

He’s contracted until 1/07/22 with WBrom so he can’t come and sign until after then. Most players contracts end at this time so a lot of deals/announcements won’t be happening until we get into July anyways.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-blackburn-transfer-ryan-nyambe-7248939Ryan Nyambe, who Stoke City tried to sign last summer, is a free agent on the move this time around after deciding to leave Blackburn.
The 24-year-old right-back had been offered a new contract at Ewood Park, where Jon Dahl Tomasson has replaced Tony Mowbray, but the Lancashire Telegraph has confirmed he will not be taking it up.
Stoke inquired about Nyambe in 2021 but Michael O'Neill has just brought in Harry Clarke on loan from Arsenal to fill the right-back or wing-back slot which has been one of the top priorities.
Clarke is versatile and can play wing-back, full-back or on the right of a back three - and he was even used on the left and on the wing during his time on loan at Hibernian - but Stoke primarily see him as a wing-back. Tom Sparrow and Demeaco Duhaney are hoping to prove they can provide cover, as well as Lewis Macari, currently on loan at Dundalk. That last sentence is scary. If Clarke got injured, as it stands, we'd have to switch formation back to a 4. And not sure that's tenable for a supposed first-choice formation.

Joe not staying must unlock whatever minimal war chest we have, interesting to see how this plays out, reckon we'll be looking at 6 signings

There won't be six more signings unless other potential first team players were to leave. Just think our squad is the most threadbare its been for years, MON himself hinting at 4 more signings, if you look back to what he was saying leading into January window, sounded like we'd be doing no business, but then ended up being quite a flurry of loans and signings. At the very least 4 straight into first team squad plus a handful in the u21's with potential to step up very soon

With the best news of the summer almost being confirmed we almost certainly need another midfielder.
DM - Thompson
Box to Box - Baker Laurent Clucas
AM - Powell

Still need at least one WB/FB maybe one who can cover both sides? Fox isn't it, and Duhaney doesn't even seem to be a footballer. The lad from Arsenal has played in both wingback roles so maybe that's the plan and we'll get a first choice RB (Blackburn guy?) Also another midfielder to replace Allen, cover for Powell in CAM (given no Vrancic or Sawyers), and hopefully two strikers, to replace Fletcher and JPB. This is without addressing the GK issue, or the absence of Souttar, given we've only replaced THB with Flint. I would be happy with Forrester in the mix but insanely we seem to be pushing both young CBs out on loan and talking about signing another CB.
I think 6 is not a shocking number tbh, but 4-5 more likely without departures: WB/M/CAM/Strikerx2
