Nice guy......Wrong footballer for Stoke City. This is probably the best summary of Joe. Has his positives, work rate, attitude, ball recovery. But just the wrong player for us at the wrong time. Wish him nothing but the best and goes with my thanks. Not his fault the club and managers could not build any kind of team while he was here.

I am happy to see this, however will not berate a player who has spent the prime of his career, 6 years and over 200+ appearances for my club.
All my best Joe, it is a shame it didn't work out.

New whipping boy required for the coming season I wonder who it’ll be🤔 Thompson has already been warmed up in the pre oven, or Sawyers straight into the pan if he signs... I’ll raise you Jacob

He was here for six years and was neither fish nor fowl for what we needed in a wasteland of a midfield for 90|% of that time. Sorry, but some of that is on him. By no means all of it, but some of it.

Well we are about to find out just had a txt form an old friend of mine . I do actually like the look of the physicality of our three summer signings but this is a huge blow for me sets us back a decent way , survival and progress thereafter will totally depend on the forward and wide recruitment but we now need at least two midfield a players as the seasons attrition in that area is notorious as it stands we are a couple of twists away from a central midfield of Thomson and Clucas and while i like Thomson that spells trouble
Management now need 5 capable players in going forwards to be competitive let alone st Johnston’s keeper key will be how do they use these wages that are freed up today
Jury remains out for me on the summer three decent in but glaring glaring gaps remain and if they aren’t filled with some success we are in for along season at best or serious trouble at worst

Yes, it is a decent summary from spitthedog and indeed others. The other point for me is that it's a statement of intent. Personally, I wouldn't have wanted Joe to stay even on a fraction of the suggested salary. The future - even if success is still a mile off - does not include Joe. But good luck to him, including at the World Cup.

Brek Shea, Owen, Liam Lindsay, Surridge, Doughty, Hogan, Woods, Afobe, Jese, Bony, Edu, Palacios... You obviously prefer bad smells when they hang around a long time. You've gone nose blind. I never said anything about liking/disliking Allen , I was just saying he isn't even in the top 10 of worst signings we have made. I'm actually relieved he's going. Not because I detest him, he's had some really good games for us over the years, but he's always been a bit "meh" for me. Nice guy though and wish him all the best.

Shame a few more didn't have his attitude.
Sad to see him go but right decision all round I think at this stage

Cant fault his attitude whilst he was here, it’s just unfortunate that he’s been a key part of a woeful midfield in recent years so I’m happy he’s decided to move on.

Yes he was an experienced pro and should have been an example. He wasn't. He was a headless chicken who caused more problems than he solved on the field and has been a curse since he got here. One of the worst signings for us in the last decade. You're worse than my mother in law who is 97 and has dementia. You can't do any sensible reasoning with her either. One thing for sure is, he won't be missed, because he's missing the majority of the time during the game

I think we all know the drill by now. Some people loved Joe Allen, others hated him, and some just saw him for what he was - a not very good footballer.
Cheers Allen, good luck in your next venture.

Yep because you make those kind of appearances at the level he's played if you're 'a not very good footballer'. Going to the World Cup as well.

I wish him no ill. No doubt he's a decent bloke. It's clear he was committed and gave his best but, for me, he made little positive impact in the vast majority of the games he played for us.

All the best to Joe, good servant to the club during difficult times! Hope he finds a good fit to prep him for the World Cup with Wales however this does now give us the opportunity (and wage) to bring in someone younger and more exciting! Unless the manager feels valuable experience - not ability - goes missing with Allen gone, then he'll bring in a 30-year old replacement. He doesn't have to be good, just experienced.

Not just that either, for his pound and outlay he's never offered us bang for buck with goals of defensive work, he's probably been one of our most useless signings in recent years with the money he's taken out the club. All this he stayed loyal as well is bullshit, he stayed because he wouldn't get the wages he got here elsewhere, we offer him what he deserves now and he ups sticks and buggers off, good riddance in my.eyes and I can't wait see a mobile and attacking midfield this season.

And that's the bit that makes me laugh. He upped his game to get a contract elsewhere (fine by me but we've seen others get stick for it). And we've had a month of press that you can bet has been dictated by his agents virtually begging for someone to offer him a deal so he can leave. Again no issue with that. My issue is with the double standards in the reaction to that. It's like it hasn't happened.

Joe will be sorely missed. He’s been loyal to the club, a player who wants the ball and still has an engine and a great football brain!! If you don’t agree try watching football you might learn a thing or two!!!!!!! He was very loyal when a contract was on the table removing the relegation wage drop. As soon as a Championship contract offer landed on the table he's gone.

It's laughable that Bayern and Co put Allen in the same bracket as Wimmer, Imbula and Berahino.
