If ever you needed confirmation that football is fucked up....... Sam Clucas earns £35,000 a week. He doesn't - it's under £20,000 I think. Not that I'm disputing the state of football.

The club had better not be even entertaining the thought of offering him another year.
Get him gone.

Yes, but what are your thoughts on Joe Allen? Fuck him off, add some real physical presence and let people who can play do so. He isn’t and never has been one of them. Much prefer it if you fucked off tbh.

Allen is a good, albeit overpaid, Championship level player who seems to have combined well with Baker. He is substantially better than Thompson who has not yet shown much of anything, and like many players his reputation improves the less he plays. Whilst Thompson is 23 and early in his career, Allen is 32 and at the tail end of his. It remains to be seen if Thompson will improve in the next 12-24 months and be a viable replacement for Allen. Assuming Powell fully recovers for next season, which is far from certain, we are strong in mid-field but need to strengthen elsewhere. I’d give Allen a short-term contract (one or two years) and sell Clucas, Campbell and one other mid-field player, and then use the money to strengthen in other areas. Even if Souttar comes back fully recovered, we still need another center back to replace Chester and Harwood-Bellis. Jagielka has at least one more season in him and a back three of Souttar, Forrester and Jagielka would be as good as it gets in this league. However, there’s no obvious back-up except Chester who has proved he’s past his best and a luxury we can’t afford. We can build around Maja and Brown up front but Fletcher and Campbell offer nothing either as 15 minute substitutes or starters. We have not seen enough of Sima to assess his log-term potential and there’s no way of knowing how well he will recover from a serious injury. Therefore we definitely need a striker; however, decent ones don’t come cheap and may be outside our budget. We still need a right back/wing back because Smith is a weak link. A final thought: Everton and Liverpool have both spent $800 million on players in the last nine years. Their positions in the league clearly demonstrate splashing the cash doesn’t always translate into results on the pitch. What does Allen do significantly better than Thompson in terms of what we need the player in that position to do, out of interest? Thompson's had a decent season for me when called on. Probably a squad player overall but he's done the kind of unflashy stopping role that was beyond the likes of Mikel (and too often pre-January, Allen) pretty effectively. Is that the Mikel who if he had stayed would have ensured us a top six finish according to our resident expert Mike Pejic? Thompson has been so unfortunate this season, every time he got a chance he got injured or was the victim of championship refereeing.

I don't think we need to concern ourselves with Thompson - he's an adequate third or fourth choice CM and is as cheap as chips.

Obviously if you assume everything on twitter from the average person is complete garbage, that's normally a safe bet.
But out-of-place tweets from people who don't tweet much can be interesting. This guy isn't an obvious troll, never tweets about football, is based in Cardiff, and has only tweeted twice in the last 6 months, both of them complaining about energy bills.

But if there's anything in the 'family wanting to move back to south Wales' thing we've been hearing for months, he's only got 2 choices, hasn't he? And if Swansea don't want him, he wouldn't be the first fan to play for a rival club.

It’s just a poorer version of the Ronaldo to Man City rouse by his agent to force Swansea to make a bid.
Good move all round for Joe “touch and tackle” Allen

The person who saw him leave leek probably didn’t see him in Cardiff, so we’ve got two unconnected people reporting on sightings of Joe Allen at specific times? I’m calling bullshit.

Would be best for all concerned. Most would wish him well, its not his fault we've had shit managers all through his time here that have had no game plan, no idea.
I bet if he could turn back time he would never have come here

I like Allen but the thing that worries me is that just retaining players will see us in mid table or below again. Allen’s a great pro but in this division a little lightweight. We need a proper destroyer besides Baker. That said Allen staying on a short term much reduced wage deal wouldn’t be a disaster. I’d rather see the back of Clucas and even Vrancic than him.

It's a good 3 hour journey from Leek to Cardiff by car even with a good run. Unless of course he's chartered a light aircraft from a local airfield. Also don't the team stay over the night before away trips which would mean he'd be back up to Boro by last night. That's some fucking about the day before a game when it could have been accomplished at a much more leisurely pace tomorrow. Plus I'm sure I read somewhere that Cardiff are absolutely skint so won't be offering him anything like we could. So all in all I'd say you're right.

Only about an hour commute from Swansea to Cardiff so could still live in Swansea area if he has family there. I've no idea if he's moved his family down there yet and if he has where to but his extended family are all in Pembrokeshire near Tenby which is a good hour from Swansea and a further hour from Cardiff. Not out of the question but not unlike commuting from Stone to Cardiff every day. Would you do it?
