Who did you think it'd be? i did think that after the failed attempts at foreign managers with Sven and definitely Capello they would stick too English managers, Potter was available, Howe was highly fancied for the job, I believe Jim Gannon is getting fed up of selling second hand motors Capello wasn't the tragedy it's made out to be. At the point he left he had the highest win percentage of any England manager ever. He never shrugged off the aura of the South Africa calamity and that's understandable. I dunno if Southo's win percentage is better.

Big Sam has the highest win ratio i think you will find! 100% South Africa was a shambles, I think Capello was a difficult manager to like which never helped him

Tuchel has just been confirmed. He did the deal on Tuesday last week..... before the Greek tragedy. Hence Carsley saying he could go back to the under 21s.

England national team should always have an English manager IMO. English managers are shit, Eddie Howe was probably our best option but he has a good job at Newcastle, after him we have nobody who is that good. Let's just waste a talented group of players on a shit English manager hey, that's why we wouldn't win anything with England.

Who knows how this will pan out. The more I think about it the more I think it’s a good appointment…rather this bloke than Howe.

The FA's main commercial asset is its ownership of the rights to England internationals and the fa cup. So I would imagine they’ll have a big influence in the international breaks. International breaks are decided by FIFA in conjunction with the global federations.

The ‘should be English’ line is a load of absolute hokum.
It applies to nothing else.
If the best doctor was German, you’d want him treating you.
If the nicest girl you knew was German, you’d date her.
If you were offered a Mercedes or a Rover for the same price, you wouldn’t be whittering on about WWII.

It's a sad indictment of our system that as a supposed major footballing nation, we can't produce a homegrown coach capable of doing the job. I think it will be many years before an Englishman is coaching Germany. However Tuchel should do a good job although ideally I would have preferred Klopp. Totally agree. Whether or not you think Tuchel is the right man for the job, we are the only ‘major’ footballing nation (the nation where football itself was born) that have recruited foreign coaches - Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Argentina… all tournament winners in the past 25 years, have never done it. Pearce is right, with all the money we plough into coaching it is an embarrassment that we do not have a worthy English coach to put in charge.

I wasn't sold on the early noughties golden generation notion. I'm sold on this one and, in all fairness they aren't doing too badly. Can we reach the next step? Not in 2026. 2028 is the chance

Sven did adequately. Did anyone really believe that bollox about a golden generation? Will that be the same bollox as this generation in 10 years time? We are desperate for a couple of decent centre backs to come through and maybe we could push Stones alongside Rice and we could have a winning team.

I know he's featured there for Man City but there's no way he would under Tuchel. I'm not his biggest fan at centre back but him and Guehi aren't too bad. We need to see how good Branthwaite is I reckon. I think the FA may have gone for Howe but for the compensation. However, I'm happy with Tuchel and would rather him than Pep actually.

What's the reason why he's starting in Jan? Seems to have come from Tuchel, rather than the FA - but seems odd.
