Have little interest in the EUFA Nations League because of its disruption of the domestic league programme. But I thought I’d take a look at how it’s organised. You need a fucking degree in football administration to understand how it works. Thought I found a simple explanation but sadly further confused the issue…..."There are four "divisions": League A, B, C (with four groups of four nations) and D (with two groups of three). League A is the strongest and League D the weakest. In League A, the top two teams in each of the four groups will go through to two-legged quarterfinals, to be played in March." Fair enough there is presumably promotion and relegation from each division but how that works is anybodies guess because each division has 4 groups and do you carry the points gained to the next division . I looked at the A Division which is supposedly the strongest and see it contains Israel & Scotland. Also there is some tenuous link to World Cup finals qualification . Who the flying fuck thought up this madness

Presumably the competition is over 4 seasons and this is the last season before quarter finals in March 25. England in League B Group 2 can no longer qualify for the quarter finals as it’s the top 2 teams of League A groups 1-4 that will make it. Surely that means that games in League B,C & D this season are pointless as were games in League C&D the season before and League D the season before that as none of these teams would make it to League A. What a clusterfuck of a competition.
