I'd prefer a second specialist left-back. m.skybet.com/football/england-specials/event/27915508Looks like there are about 22 certs: Pickford Ramsdale Pope Trippier TAA Shaw Maguire Dier Stones White Coady Walker Rice Bellingham Henderson Foden Grealish Sterling Mount Saka Kane Rashford ..with 2 more midfielders (Phillips if fit - plus one from Loftus-Cheek and Ward-Prowse?) probably another left-back (although none of Justin, Sessegnon, Burn and Mitchell are convincing?) And a striker from Abraham, Toney and Wilson. Can't see how they can squeeze Maddison in as there are so many other similar players already in Who is there left back wise? I can’t think of one of the top of my head. Nobody with any caps apart from Mitchell from Palace who's got one, I think. The ones mentioned by the press are: m.skybet.com/football/england-specials/event/27915508Justin (Leicester) - who isn't even left-footed 9/4 Dan Burn (Newcastle) - who isn't great going forward and was once destroyed by Oussama Assaidi when played out there (although, to be fair, he does seem to be playing well in a back 4 for Newcastle) 5/2 Sessegnon (Spurs) 5/2 Mitchell (Palace) 12/1 Cresswell (W Ham) 25/1

There is no left back good enough so I’d play Trippier right back and Shaw left back. Injury to Shaw and Trippier switches over mean TAA or Ben White come in on the right. Not ideal but I don’t see any worthy alternatives I think you're probably right in terms of what of what Southgate would do, but I always think playing a right-footer out there really restricts thing going forward. But Southgate has played Trippier there before in big games. And whether he'd played Alex-Arnold at RWB in a quarter-final v France, for example, who knows? He doesn't seem to like him

Ironically the injuries mean he’s more likely to play out of his preferred position. But there is literally no one it has to be said. Imagine if he tries to shoehorn Saka in there again? I think I’d turn the telly off!

This would be my 26 man squad. Excuse the odds, it's from the original post and I can't be arsed to delete them Jordan Pickford 1/12 Aaron Ramsdale 1/10 Nick Pope 4/9 DEF Luke Shaw 1/12 Kieran Trippier 7/4 Harry Maguire 1/20 John Stones 1/20 Ben White 1/3 Fikayo Tomori 5/2 Eric Dier 7/2 Kyle Walker 1/8 Trent Alexander-Arnold 1/3 (Reece James instead if he's close to being fit) Midfield Declan Rice 1/20 Jude Bellingham 1/20 Jordan Henderson 1/3 Ruben Loftus-Cheek 5/1 Kalvin Phillips 1/3 Attackers James Maddison 4/1 Mason Mount 1/20 Phil Foden 1/20 Jack Grealish 1/16 Bukayo Saka 1/10 Raheem Sterling 1/20 Harry Kane 1/16 Marcus Rashford 1/10 Callum Wilson 8/1 I'd prefer a second specialist left-back. m.skybet.com/football/england-specials/event/27915508Looks like there are about 22 certs: Pickford Ramsdale Pope Trippier TAA Shaw Maguire Dier Stones White Coady Walker Rice Bellingham Henderson Foden Grealish Sterling Mount Saka Kane Rashford ..with 2 more midfielders (Phillips if fit - plus one from Loftus-Cheek and Ward-Prowse?) probably another left-back (although none of Justin, Sessegnon, Burn and Mitchell are convincing?) Trippier is decent, but TAA is questionable defensively. Rice is very solid, but Foden has never turned up for England. Sterling usually is reliable, but hasn’t been firing properly this season. There’s very few, top quality international players in that squad. I see us playing like Stoke: slow, possession-based football with limited creativity against lesser sides.

Does anyone else really not give a flying fig about this? Probably just the people commenting on it. But you’re right, the interest levels are very low for World Cup, more to do with it being mid season I reckon, rather than the fact it’s in Qatar

How Ben White is nowhere near the squad is beyond me. He was awesome again yesterday at Chelsea and he comes with the option of playing right back or centre back.

You could go to Wembley for England's first match and pay cash at the turnstiles, and the ground wasn't full to capacity. By the time of the final the whole country was obsessed. I heard of someone driving the length of the Potteries during the match (there was no A500 then) and hardly saw another car on the road.

Be handy if you were watching a cliffhanger between Lorient and Sochaux on Bein2 and just remembered you were going to Salou that evening and had nothing in which to transport your clothes to said destination.

I still have the case covered in gaffer tape and cling film with a few dirty old shorts still hibernating in there

mystified why platini , beckham , even gary neville are out to destroy their reputation and self respect for this nonsense ...
Platini meeting president Sarkozy at the Elysee palace and promising to use his influence with the french fa and the fa of several european countries to get them to vote for a qatar world cup ,contradicting the fact , that FIFA themselves had already awarded the 2022 world cup to the USA (FIFA announced years earlier that the 2018world cup would be in russia and the 2022 world cup would be in the USA ) , because sarkozy tells him it will be very worth his while, if qatar award a $14 billion dollar fighter jet contract to france ( they did ! )
gary neville taking money from qatari BEIN sports to be their commentator ( how can he possibly need a few quid from BEIN sports!)
And Beckham agreeing to be the arch propagandist for the most propagandist sporting event since adolf hitler's olympic games of 1936( surely he is already comfortable )
you would think there must reach a point , when you have so many millions in your bank account , that you can not so much take the moral high ground , but just chill out and be a decent person
these men are already millionaires ...why do they do this ?
it is reported in the Financial Times , Amnesty International are currently trying to meet with the English FA , NOT to talk about how thousands of young men in their 20s and 30s have been worked to death , building the stadia for the world cup . But to explain how thousands more are currently being 'cleared' ( sent packing back to delhi , dhaka , Kathmandu...) having not earned enough to pay for the loans for their passage to qatar and the money lenders ( qatar ) are now charging them 36 % interest on their debt ...the ones they didn't work to death , they are enslaving in debt . And the English FA are refusing to see them ...they want to get harry kane to wear a rainbow armband ...but they don't want to hear from amnesty international or anyone else what is actually going on out there
What next ...let me guess ... more armbands ( and more turning a blind eye}

I really don't get the clamour for Maddison. He's a good player, but no better than the other attacking players we've got, who'd all have to be used in wider areas in Southgate's set-up in big games.
If we're losing, there'll be people like Foden, Saka, Grealish, Mount already on the bench.
I'd be surprised if Southgate stuck him in.

I could see the case for taking a punt on him but the idea that he should be a shoo-in is weird. As you say his best role doesn't really exist in the Southgate's system and we have players at least as good who can play there.
