I think if we'd wanted Sawyers he'd have signed, so hopefully we have something in the offing.......

Think he's a good player used in the right role but not a huge loss overall. Not convinced he quite showed enough to be worth it and I'd be worried if he was our Plan A with Powell possibly looking at a long time out or even being pretty much finished here.

I’m happy that we haven’t signed him. Undoubtedly has talent, just didn’t think he had the application.
Hopefully we have a couple of attacking options lined up, as we look well short.

Yeah, I agree with that, Rob. He's got certain qualities, definitely. But couldn't have seen any prospect of him starting deeper with Baker, Laurent, Kilkenny and Thompson already here. And would hope the Powell cover (or replacement if he's injured) has got more of a goal threat in his locker. Elliot Anderson sounds potentially ideal.

I hope there's a plan, at present this is shaping up to be the most boring season of O'Neils era which isn't a pleasant thought.

Sawyers would have been nice to have, but we need goals from that specific player and that's not really Sawyers' game, is it?

Whether Sawyers was the right man for us or not we pretty much know the manager wanted him, impression was players was happy to come Cardiff, despite their signings, have cut their budget & he's only got a two year deal With Vranci gone & Powell injured we clearly need someone up there
We must be offering absolute peanuts,
unless we get some Collins £££ or some other money from a sale we are going to be in for cheap loans & young players like the most recent two signings
fortunately a good chuck of the division are clearly skint too, e.g. Blackpool no signings as yet
standard in the Championship appears to about to drop again

Someone younger makes more sense really, not expecting to start every single game. The only 30-plus players you can attract as rotation options are typically doing it for one last pay-out. We've had too many of those types

I actually think Baker would be even better if played as our attacking midfielder as he has a wonderful right foot. Also Laurent, DWP and Clucas can play in that position so I'd rather have a big, quick player up front and another winger with pace to burn. Those two signings seem very important for the outcome of the season though! I think this could be our starting 11 if we go 4 3 3 for the opening game as things stand right now. .....................Bonham......................... Clarke..........Jags.......Flint.........Tymon...... ..............Kilkenny...Laurent.................... Campbell.............Baker...............McCarron .....................Brown.......................... If MON decides to go with 5 at the back we will look close to this I think: ......................Bonham....................... ...........Jags.......Flint.......Wilmot........... Clarke..........Kilkenny...Laurent..........Tymon ......................Baker........................ ...............Campbell....Brown..................

Sawyers can't be the primary option in the Powell role, so he'd surely be a bit of a luxury We can't afford another midfielder with no goal threat at all, given the way the squad is currently carrying less of a goal threat than a comatose gerbil in those areas.

No one in the current squad can be nailed down for a place in the team whatever the system - not even the venerable Powell. Simply put none of them have played well enough for long enough. I’m not saying we should have signed Sawyers because he certainly wasn’t anything to write home about last season but I am saying that a lack of opportunity for playing time is highly unlikely to be the reason he’s gone to Cardiff. Either we weren’t that interested or they have simply offered more money. Either way the fact remains the current squad looks the dictionary definition of ‘ordinary’ and it’s to be hoped that somebody has something up their sleeve or it’s just going to be a grind ....again.

If we don’t do a fair bit more business we’re obviously in as bad a way as some seem to think but at least we haven’t signed Sawyers or the Scottish keeper so far so good.

Baker didn't look anywhere near as good on the couple of occasions he was used in that advanced role though. He's much more effective as a box-to-box player, it suits his skillset better. He's a dynamic midfielder with a bit of bite and a great engine, he isn't necessarily a creative type who will spray key passes around or split defences.

Thats a bit of a shame, quite liked Romaine, but as stated above, he's not a big enough goal threat to be a Powell back-up, If we'd wanted him he would have been over in Ireland right now so lets hope we've got someone tastier in our sights.
