Don't know about even further back with the W system. That was before my time. I was going by the Prem, majority of 4's are CB and some 6's are CM's. Little rhyme or reason to it nowadays players seem to choose what number they want to be whereas before squad numbers the position owned the number not the player.

Sawyers better than Allen?
Utter nonsense.

Number 6 is the CDM, equally daft idea mind. Fair enough. You think it's daft but it's still correct. Sawyers evidently can cover that position (6) should that need arise (injuries/suspensions etc.) albeit I think he's best as an 8. We don't tend to really play with a true CDM in any case (I wish we did more often) but he's certainly able to play in that role as MoN seems to expect it to be carried out (ball retention, tempo, dropping deep to receive from the back 4/'keeper) especially alongside another deep-lying midfielder. Baker and Laurent can also play/cover 6. It just gives us that extra flexibility in the midfield dept. Alongside someone I agree, I was more refering to being just the CDM, he can't/won't tackle, we've been there before with Ryan Woods and just got overun all the time.

Sawyers better than Allen? Utter nonsense. At what? I can't stand the fucker but he's far better than Allen at some things and far worse at others.

Sawyers. Controlling a football, spotting a pass, executing a pass. Allen. Running, jumping, heading, tackling. Would I want both or either, that's a no from me.

Do we need him now?
Laurent has replaced him.
Kilkenny has replaced Allen, so we’re like for like in terms of numbers?

I've cooled a bit to the idea of Sawyers signing, I think I'd rather see the budget be stretched for a target man if necessary.........

I'd much rather a DM really now, not sure there's much space for Sawyers anymore.

I'd much rather a DM really now, not sure there's much space for Sawyers anymore. Would be interesting to see how Sawyers could work with our new midfield additions, I feel they could really compliment each other. He's a known quantity, and seems like a sound bloke. Trying to find a better player to cover Powell on a free in this window would be tough.

Baker could cover for Powell great finisher even Clucas if he ever rouses himself is effective behind a front two .
Not sure Sawyers is what we need

I can't see past a midfield trio of Kilkenny, Baker & Laurent as first choice three with Powell moving into the front line.

Great engine and great shot for sure, but he's better driving from deeper as a box-to-box midfielder, he doesn't seem one to necessarily create a lot of chances.

This is true, I have no idea how we intend to line up in all honesty, but Sawyers has that creative ability and vision for a pass or flick that only Nick has amongst our midfield, i just feel we might need that option/rotation.

He’s absolutely brilliant, Cardiff would be fools to miss out on him. Get it done you know it makes sense.

Even if Powell is injured, I’d rather not get Sawyers. He has zero energy. He just does not suit us.

I must be in a minority of 1 in liking him - thought he was great v Blackburn away.
His body language doesn't help him though.

He’s a decent player but I wouldn’t sign him. If we need him as a Powell replacement then unfortunately he just won’t score/create enough goals.
We need that player to be scoring 10+ goals if playing a full season & that’s not Sawyers.
