And in reverse I suspect that the people who think he's funny are those that subscribe to their and his preferred brand of politics. I just find him annoying because of his monotone dull voice and the fact that his jokes just come across as kiddy type humour The thing to remember, which some people tend to forget, is he is a comedian not a political commentator. He is taking the piss, not offering deep insight or, frankly, any insight. So, he tells jokes. Very crude ones, that are intended to shock. I quite like him. His comments about Sunak and, particularly Truss, did make me smile. But folk shouldn’t take political offence in the same way others shouldn’t take political inspiration. Completely agree , I just find him irritating in the same way I find Billy Connolly irritating as a comedian. Not because of their perceived politics but because my sense of humour is different to theirs. I'm more of a Peter Jay, Micky Flanagan man 😄

Nothing really to see even by mad Lizzie’s standards No one is actually going to turn round and say We’ll spend billons on this deterrent oh by the way we’ve no intention of using it

And it'll do nowt to ease tensions in these particularly sensitive times we find ourselves in.

Nothing really to see even by mad Lizzie’s standards No one is actually going to turn round and say We’ll spend billons on this deterrent oh by the way we’ve no intention of using it It is usually qualified in some way though isn't it, along the lines of 'no one would want to be in that position but.....' or 'I'm sure we all hope that it never comes to that but...' Not dead eyed Liz. The guaranteed mutual destruction of the world? 'I'm ready to do it' with all the carefree abandon of a woman asked if she is nervous about competing in the parents egg and spoon race on her kid's school sports day. A deeply frightening woman.

Being ready to launch nuclear war is exactly what leads us to not getting nuked. That’s the essence of nuclear deterrence. OWNING the weapons is enough of a deterrent. Ordinarily, leaders of nuclear powers will be (understandably) very diplomatic about the need to use them, expressing the hope that it should never become necessary. The sort of diplomacy that Mad Lizzie is clearly incapable of.

We've recently announced an increase in our stockpile from 180 to 260 weapons, you don't make that sort of financial commitment, if you're not going to be prepared to use them. Even a buffoon like Johnson, knew it was right to publicly play down the need to actually use them however. Every time he was asked about a nuclear attack from Russia, he always responded with a diplomatic answer like, he felt confident Russia wouldn't use them in the first place. I really don't think Truss has the ability to think on her feet and I'm sure the next time she's asked a similar question, she'll (having reflected/been advised on it this time) provide a somewhat different response.

I'm going against the grain of most people I normally agree with on here. Any British Prime Minister needs to say exactly what she said, but she said it in a way that was far too casual for my liking. She didn't do herself any favours when she refused to say how she would feel if she had to do it. That's the Truss part of her that I hate with a passion.
Putting my thoughts into perspective, I thought one of Corbyn's major flaws is that he's a pacifist and when asked the same question, he refused to answer.
If I was Prime minister I would have answered thus: "IF it was obvious that Russia/North Korea/China had launched nuclear weapons that would destroy our society and that of the Western World, I would, without hesitation, order a retaliatory strike from every conceivable place, including from Trident,
As to how I would feel? I'd reply that I'd feel sick to the very core of my being when I did so.
Nuclear weapons are an abomination and possessing them fulfills one purpose... they're a deterrent to avoid mutually assured destruction. Up to yet it's worked. It's working now because without that threat over his head, Putin would already have used them in Ukraine, of that I'm sure.
OS.

Is it still true that on taking office PMs write letters to Trident sub captains giving instructions on what to do if the UK is Nuked and the government is incapacitated? That would be a real moral dilemma for me. Not sure I could do it.

Just give me and my family a few weeks warning before you clap an unelected, clearly incompetent wannabe prime minister, to orchestrate nuclear Armageddon on my community. I will move everybody I know and love out of this country, and as far as possible away from it,and leave you lot to your patriotic closing down party. Not in my name, and leave me the fuck out of it.

Unless its to keep warm this coming winter . You do realise that if there is a nuclear war you, your family, me and mine and everyone else's will be turned to dust dont you . Me warning you about a round of applause will make no difference whatsoever 😁 Don't be scared though mate . The impotency of those in charge (I won't call them leaders because they don't lead me) is beyond our control . Nothing we can say on a footy message board makes the slightest bit of difference. All you can do is look after yourself and your own and do what's right for you and your own same as the rest of us .

It’s the happy clapping of idiots like Truss is what starts this kind of thing off. Acting the strong woman to get elected, the sound bites, the rhetoric, with seemingly no thought on the consequences. Frightening.
