they are only a slip away from joining their neighbours Quatar in backing Putin. This needs to be boycotted.

I simply cannot understand why anyone wants to go to Dubai, it's a disgrace of a nation too. This World Cup represents all that is wrong in the World.. the love of money is destroying our biosphere, but as long as the 'show' diverts attention, sufficient numbers of people are prepared to keep their collective heads buried in the sand whilst the sociopathic elite continue to tear apart the source of our very existence.. and theirs too. It's fucking bizarre.

Qatar (and FIFA) will only listen if the big advertisers start to get jittery. What a world we currently inhabit. Rotten to the core.

Nope, it will be an unmitigated disaster for all associated. Not least Southgate.

once this WC (with an asterisk*) gets under way, you just know that something bad is going to happen over there (with fans), and that the police and powers over there will cover it up.

The more I hear about this World Cup the worst it gets tbh.
The Ministers comments are quite unbelievable? What does it mean show respect anyway? I'd love him to expand on what he suggests people should and shouldn't being doing or saying exactly?
If they can't accept behaviours that are the norm in most parts of the world then they shouldn't be hosting a tournament that is open to the rest of the world.
My only slim hope is that this will bring certain ethical issues to a head but I'm not putting my mortgage on it.

It's good. But others have to follow it up with their own statements.

It's good. But others have to follow it up with their own statements. The only statement should be the boycotting of the WC now by every country appalled by Qatar's human rights policies and record. Every single player who competes is complicit in this disgusting countries actions. I will not be watching any of it.

The whole thing stinks from how they got the competition in the first place, it’s safety record in building the stadiums, to now the need to have to make these statements to get inclusivity, not to mention the scandalous accommodation costs. Well done the FIFA hypocrites and some on here seem to think we should be delighted Harry Souttar might be going🙄.

They're based on not wanting him hurt his knee. They were the other day anyway

Wales captain is going to wear a fucking armband in protest - one step up from tutting I suppose.
Like me sticking an arm band on in protest against female exploitation whilst knocking 3-7 wanks out over X-Hamster.
Would this be the time for a really high profile player, or from a high profile team competing, to announce their homosexuality?

I wonder if we'll see anything like this from those England players who have been taking the knee as a protest against ALL forms of discrimination over the last couple of years? I wont hold my breath.

If some don't want to watch it , so be it, will anyone really care? Of course not. Players are entitled to play in it and the same old comments re the stadiums etc, which in most cases are in accurate and just the same old repeated stats won't change that.

The line about people not being free to love the people they choose felt out of place given there's only one openly gay male footballer playing in the English professional league, and not many more worldwide. But it's great to see some players speaking out on behalf of their national team.

Qatar has spent more money on gifts and trips for British MPs in the past year than any other country, according to Observer analysis that reveals the Gulf state’s lobbying efforts ahead of next month’s football World Cup.
The Qatari government made gifts to members of parliament worth £251,208 in the 12 months to October 2022, including luxury hotel stays, business-class flights and tickets to horse-racing events.
During a debate about preparations for the World Cup earlier this month, Alun Cairns, who chairs an informal parliamentary group set up to “foster good relations between the UK and Qatar”, made a speech praising Qatar, including “paying tribute” to its response to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Cairns, Tory MP for the Vale of Glamorgan, initiated the debate on 20 October and later shared videos of it on Twitter alongside a Nelson Mandela quote: “Sport has the power to change the world.”
Records show he received £9,323 worth of donations from the Qatari government in 2022, for a five-day trip in February to meet officials alongside other members of the Qatar all-party parliamentary group (APPG), and for a trip a month later to attend the Doha Forum policy event.
Details of Qatar’s donations were revealed through analysis of declarations in the MPs register of interests. The records show 34 MPs declared 40 donations from Qatar in the year to October 2022. Of those, 22 MPs were Tory, seven were Labour, three were SNP and two were independent.

The only good from the upcoming world cup is that the slaves finally receive a break in working to death before being evicted back to Africa or the wider East Asian steppes.

It doesn't feel as though there is a world cup coming along soon. I don't seem to be enthused. I'm the same mate just doesn't feel like there's the buzz about that you usually feel before a world cup. Whether that's down to it being in winter or that it's in Qatar and there's alot against it I don't know just doesn't feel the same. I actually forgot it was so close to starting until the lads did the sweep at work today, I drew Holland and Costa Rica so that has put even more of a dampener on it.
