Lots of uncomfortable truths! "There is almost a kind of dark Fifa comedy here. A war started by the last World Cup hosts is now filling the coffers of the next World Cup hosts, while generating mind-boggling profits for the latest 2030 bidders and current owners of Newcastle United (a war that involved, needless to say, invading the hosts of Euro 2012. Take that Uefa!). In the middle of which there is a real prospect that two months from now you could be watching the World Cup under a blanket, while a nation that is profiting from you being under a blanket stages its grand spectacular, paid for by you being under a blanket." "Here is a spectacle that is, in the end, being paid for through your excess energy bills, even as the UK goes cap in hand for Qatar’s gas reserves." ... "Recently, Saudi Aramco announced what are reportedly the biggest quarterly profits in the history of companies having profits, all of which bodes well, naturally, for Eddie Howe’s complex squad-building needs. Those high prices are a result of the war in Ukraine. Plus, the UK buys most of its gas from Norway." ... "Some supporters of those clubs will feel attacked by having these relationships pointed out, will call for silence on such issues, because they are complex and uncomfortable and essentially insoluble. Every club is touched by this in some way. No one is clean."

More interested in if Stoke will be playing any friendlies during the break …( seems EUFA / FiFA FA will sanction them , but if so where they’ll let clubs play ) speaking to a Villa fan at the recent u21 game ..Villa will play Cardiff away on Nov 30 in a Peter Whittingham memorial game
Full house friendlies , empty world cup stadiums and hotels ..can but dream .. but certainly got my fingers crossed re Stoke sorting a trip somewhere
One for the council to ask at their first meeting with the club

I am against us going to Qatar to play in a world cup built on slave labour.
If we are going, I think it's a particularly bad idea to go there, play there and insist that it's all fine because our players are being made to wear an armband with a rainbow painted on it .

The god botherers of any hue need to have an epiphany or enlightenment and see that they don't need to be so rigid in their thinking. Separate the church from the state and Bob's your uncle. I'd give it another 500 years. They are still in the Middle Ages (they still stone people FFS) whereas we in the west have moved on a bit. It's a no from me.

Virtue signalling. It’s not enough. Rainbow armbands etc The only way to make a true statement is by not going Everyone knows the USA (and lots more countries including QATAR) boycotted Moscow Olympics. That will be remembered more than UK supporting the boycott but going anyway

I don't want to be part a passive supporter of such a monstrous regime. Instead I'll spend my time watching Stoke's friendlies. Last week they announced three fixtures, starting with a game against the Taliban, before facing those Brazilian guys who illegally chop down trees in the Amazon and finishing with a match against a Jeffrey Epstein XI. A rumoured match against the Vale will not go ahead after a backlash against Burslem's appalling human rights record.

The guy in the picture clearly has constipation. According to studies (which the Quatari's clearly have not read) shouting profanity actually helps 👍

I knew Qatar had African players in their national side but didn't realise they'd been poaching African kids to train them up and get citizenship for the national team. Interesting to hear there's a section on FIFA as a criminal organisation in Las Vegas' Mob Museum too. It still sounds like a massively corrupt organisation despite Blatter leaving and supposed reforms. I've listened to a couple of other Lords of Soccer episodes, and it's been a good listen, although they seem to take the long way round to get to their point sometimes. Sadly I wasn't shocked about how FIFA (and the US soccer authorities) have held back women's football.

I want to say I won’t watch any of it but I don’t think for one second I’ll stick to that. I will try my damndest though. To be perfectly honest, that's pretty much where I'm at. We're so starved for football here in the US, (the few of us who care) I'll talk boycott, but end up watching it just because it's the World Cup and it's on.

MSC cruises are advertising one if their ships is moored up for the tournament and offering rooms, no idea how much but I bet its expensive.
