It's not a location I would have chosen but if I get a ticket I might well pop over to watch a game or two. Lovely place to visit. Am looking forward to it. Same idea if can get will go to a game or two. I've only ever been to Doha Airport flying to elsewhere but it looked stunning from the little I've seen out of windows.

I've been one of those slagging off Qatar as a legitimate location. A force for good? Only if it ends up with jailed officials and exposes corruption in the site-bidding. But that issue has passed - the selection process/bribes/corruption is done. Now I only want to see it go off safely.
I'm not slagging off people who choose to go and support their teams. So let's get on with it. Everyone have a dramatic and safe World Cup, may it be a memorable event for the on-pitch action.

Corrupt selection process to award the competition to a despotic regime who reneged on the bid promise to hold the competition in the summer and then exploited cheap foreign labour to build the required infrastructure. What is not to like?

I heard a spokeswoman - yes, woman - for the Qatar World Cup on BBC Radio 5 this morning. No doubt she was chosen for the role by Qatar because she was a woman, in an attempt to show Qatar is being progressive. I think there is progression and Qatar hosting the World Cup is helping that, and she highlighted some of that progression, but she still talked a lot of crap.
Not forgetting my opening post where I said the World Cup shouldn't have been awarded to Qatar in the first place.

If they had fielded a gay couple to front the draw who then kissed and had a pint to celebrate improved conditions for migrant workers I might have been convinced.

You could make arguments for many countries that have hosted it or the Olympics. I think Qatar will do a great job and obviously questions asked re the awarding but goes on in all walks

Couldn’t agree more The power of the brown envelope And over paid footballers willing to turn a blind eye to their moral stance when it comes to the wanton murder of innocent people who’s only crime is to try and feed their families

I don't remember any call to boycott 78, those who qualified of course. Why should any footballer refuse to play at the biggest tournament of his life which would achieve and change nothing? Easy to type and say it and believe everything you read in the tabloids and use the old 'over paid' cliche .

It’s not all about the regime though (agree you could point the finger at a host of country’s) but fucking Qatar.. really.. why should a tiny country in the Middle East get to host a World Cup over other country’s🤷🏼♂️ Well of course corruption, but what an absolute piss take

I think Australia will be due one soon.. china will no doubt be wanting a bit of the action, like you say an African country, and so on.. Qatar is a joke

There are too many problems to navigate. The women's world cup is here next year. Hopefully that proves to be a stepping stone to new possibilities
