Anyone had a go of FM22 yet?
Started my beta save as Stoke (Obviously). Nothing much to report so far as I've spent around six hours on the game & only just played my first game of the season! (Beat Reading 2-0, Sima scored on debut).
Trying to keep it as close to real life as I can so I haven't made any signings & the only outgoing was sending Tom Ince on loan to Cardiff.
Starting XI for the Reading game was...
Bursik, Ostigard, Souttar, Wilmot, Smith, Allen, Sawyers, Tymon, Powell, Fletcher, Sima.
There's so much depth to this game since I last played it properly! I played FM20 but only brought the 'touch' version which limits a lot of what you can do, the last 'full' version I played would have been back in about 08/09 sort of time, and Jesus Christ has the game come on since then! I've ended up telling Holden to look after all the training & what not, and nicked a DoF from Sunderland to oversee a few other things... Lets me deal with what I'm used to from the old games, signing players & setting tactics! (Although seeing as I haven't signed anyone yet I've basically spent six hours sorting out tactics & figuring out where everything is!)
... Oh, and has anyone else found that when you started your game your entire team (First team, U23s & U18s) were all out-of-contract at the end of the season? I don't know if it's just a bug with it still being in beta, or a bug with Stoke, or just a bug with my game?

I’m sure the contract thing will just be a bug. I can’t wait to get the game. Finally put the time in to get to the top of the manager rankings last year which took even longer than I’d hoped as Guardiola ended up winning a lot more and overtaking Ferguson. It’ll be interesting to see which tactics work best this year. 442 with inverted wing backs did the trick last year but finding players who were decent in that position wasn’t easy.

Another good few hours into the game now & one thing I've noticed is how unfit (or knackered would perhaps be a better description) the players are. In past FMs I've always been pretty much able to field a starting XI of 100% fit players, or 99/98% at worst. Not this time though, it's becoming common to have multiple people in my starting line-up who're down into the 80's.
Wasn't too much of a problem at first, I'd have the first team for the league & a completely different XI for the league cup but the injuries have started to bite, the main casualties being Harry Souttar & Nick Powell. Souttar being out wasn't a problem at first as Chester filled in well for him but now he's injured aswell! Vrancic was the obvious option to replace Powell, he started well but has since tanked in the ratings each game.
Jacob Brown has been on fire for me & is the top scorer in the entire league, his best game coming when he scored two against Huddersfield in a 6-2 mauling. (Surridge & Tymon also grabbing two each... Tymon seems to be mint by the way!)
My new DoF has gone mental. He's brought in a GK coach who doesn't speak a word of English so I've had to send him on an 'intense course' (Costing about ten bloody grand!), he's also signed a scout who doesn't speak English so I've sent him scouting in his native Germany. Without doubt the biggest thing he's done is to bring in a new 'technical director' (How is this different to a DoF?) And that is none other than Steve McClaren, so we'll soon find out whether the wolly with a brolly can do it on a wet & windy night in Stoke! (The early signs aren't good as we've just been beat 3-1 by Barnsley & then got dicked 3-0 by Derby!)

If you have PC or Xbox Game Pass then good news, FM22 is coming out on Game Pass on release date.
Can't wait, that and Forza are making November a very busy gaming month for me!

30 games into my first season at Stoke now. Currently sat in 3rd place just one point behind leaders Sheffield United.
You lose a load of money each month so I've got rid of Ince (Turned his Cardiff loan into a permo. No fee, just glad to be rid of his wage), Davies wouldn't sign a new contract so got rid of him (Minimal fee of £100k or so, but again it was a wage cleared). Josh 'the assist king' Tymon wanted to leave but I managed to convince him to stick around by saying I'd let him go if someone offered £12m (Which no-one did).
Last game was away at Reading, managed by none other than Michael O'Niell. We went 3-0 up in the first ten minutes, Reading pulled one back before we hit a fourth... Then, in an all too familiar fashion I turned my head away for two seconds & suddenly it was 4-4. Luckily we scored a late winner to come away with a 5-4 victory!
If we fail to gain promotion I get the very strong feeling we're going to be fucked for money next season & I'm going to need to sell pretty much everyone.

First month was £1 then £8 a month after which I don’t think’s too bad. Having a bit of a gaming resurgence at the min so it’s well worth the money to try a few out. There was about 10 on there I’ve really fancied playing so well worth it. Started playing Hades but it had me tearing my hair out!

Finished off my first season last night, missed out on the play-offs due to goal difference. Disappointing finish but I'm sure I got some bollocks load as my team who were doing ace & looking like going up automatically, suddenly decided they didn't know how to score & picked up just 2 points out of a possible 27 in the first 9 games after loading it back up. There's been a huge clearout over the summer, loans ending (Although I have managed to keep Ostigard for another season), players retiring (Fletcher), I've cleared out some of the other older guys but I've also had to lose some of my best players. Josh Tymon for instance, we'd agreed I'd sell him if someone offered £12m & he was happy with this... Then Watford offered just £2m for him, I obviously rejected it, he then came barging into my office demanding to know why I was rejecting offers. I told him it was because the offer was well short but he just started kicking off & acting like a dick, so I chucked him in the U23's untill I could get rid of him (To Swansea for £4m - He wanted to go to West Brom who also bid for him but I rejected their offer, two of us can be dicks, Josh). I then had Sheffield United (Who won the league) come in for Souttar, I knew It would only end up the same way if I rejected so I had to let him go for £8m. (I've got problems with Campbell at the minute aswell, we've agreed to sell him if anyone offers £12m, West Ham have just offered £5m which I rejected, so he's now sulking). I got rather excited over the summer months as news broke that someone was interested in buying the club. A couple of days later the Coates family said they were willing to sell up. A few days after that the takeover was complete. Got my hopes up for some big investment & a bumper transfer kitty... Then the new owners told me they weren't putting any money into the club. Great. So it's been a summer of mostly signing kids from the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea & Man Utd on free transfers, with a couple of loan players chucked in. So this is my new look team for the season...

Yeah you can still get them, I've got all the badges, kits, stadiums & cities, plus a different skin. The only thing I haven't yet added is to give teams/competitions like Man Utd, Juventus & the Champions League their proper names, but now that the full game has finally released I'll most probably sort that tonight (Or at some point this week).

They’re still going with the takeover after one season then? Was the same in FM21. I got lucky with some Koreans last year on one of my saves. They stopped putting money in eventually but helped the build.

That’s a nice skin you’ve got for it! It's the Flut Dark skin, mate. You can get it from here. There's instructions on how to install it, and also links to other useful things like stadium packs, then there's a bunch of links down the side to other things people use like kits, logos, facepacks & what not. *I think you have to sign-up in order to see the download links for the skin, should appear just underneath the OP's username on the right.

Just finished my 1st season with Queen's Park in Scottish Division 1.
Loaned a few players from Rangers and Celtic which led to me taking the title.
Got to Scottish Cup Semi-Final before losing 2-0 to Stevie Gerrards Rangers. Just no match for them and only really created 1 chance early in the 2nd half but fired straight at the keeper.
Went out in 5th round of other cup to Alloa, after having a goal disallowed to go 2-1 up but ended up losing 2-1.

I can't carry mine on 'cos upon the full release I fucked off to my traditional FM home of managing in Italy Started as Stoke the lack of any budget is difficult to manoeuvre I have signed one loan player from Arsenal and that’s it. I downloaded a tactic for five at the back and so far I top with on draw and one defeat just played Blackburn and won easily so it’s obviously bollocks. Tempted start again and disappear off to France or Italy myself do a bit of bargain hunting. Tempted do what I did towards the end of fm21 and start non league once the board refuse a request I leave and work my days at up the leagues like that. I took Wrexham up then moved to Bristol then Genoa before ending up at Stoke! Problem with as I’d rinsed all the decent players left at a bargain off to Genoa and pinched Collins from Stoke for a bargain fee, by the time I rocked up at the bet365 the squad was like agoraphobic convention there was no fucker left and we were skint 🤦♂️

I grabbed a tactic from FM Scout which was something of a wonder tactic. I ended up playing sima on the right as an inside forward and surridge up top and they been scoring for fun. Struggled to keep clean sheets but it got me promotion. Suspect I’ll get battered next season with it as I lost 6-0 to city in the 4th round

Well I’ve romped to promotion and I’m now up shit street. Bursik gone Chelsea for 16 mil, tymon left on a free, dortmund are after souttar and villa after tyrese. The Coates have give me a 60mil budget then promptly sold up and the new owners have give me 25mil I had 40mil of transfers lined up and I’ve had to scrap them. My only hope now is give souttar a big contract at rely on near post corners keeping me up.

Some of the player interactions really bug me, they can proper fuck up your season by battering morale throughout the team & seeing you go on shockingly bad runs. I'll list a couple of examples here which all did this to me... Number one. I signed a young lad from Argentina, gave him a contract which was way bigger than what he was on in his homeland, and it also came with all kinds of wage increases for games played, goals scored & such like. Half-a-season into being at the club he comes barging into my office demanding a massive wage hike more than quadrupling his current wage. I didn't want to pay that but also didn't want to lose him so I offered to double his wages & add in even more performance related wage increases. He instantly rejects it & demands a transfer so I'm forced to sell him... I should add here that I was managing Milan, he gets sold to Atalanta & has a wage which is less than what I offered him! Number two. The fella playing in my attacking left wing slot was doing great, over the course of ten games or so he was consistently getting ratings of 8+, scored half-a-dozen goals & had half-a-dozen assists. My assistant manager said he felt I should praise his recent form, so I had a quick chat with him & told him how well he was playing... He starts ranting & raving at me, telling me how he's lost all respect for me & there's no way back from this & he demands a transfer! What the fuck?!?! So from now on I completely ignore my assistant manager & I never interact with my players, it's not worth the hassle

Before I get started on running up a frankly embarrassing amount of time on FM I was wondering…
What are the typical board expectations for Stoke in the first season? How has Emre Tezgel developed? Though I appreciate I may be a bit early with that one.

Post by The Drunken Communist on Dec 21, 2021 15:39:53 GMT
Can't comment on Tezgel as my Stoke go was only messing around in the Beta so I wasn't really focused on developing youth. The board only expected a top-half finish from memory, and I'm pretty sure they only expected that for the next few seasons aswell.
