If he stays at Millwall he’ll be unavailable to play against us, go to Watford and he plays…..Think about it!!!!! Season loan to Watford solves this. We’re not going to get a fee for him as he’s in the last year of his contract and his wages are enormous.

Unless a club relegated from the Premier League with parachute payments with a manager who wants him comes along? We just might get an actual fee for him

Do Watford have any players that would be a good fit here and available
Surely it’s time to try and make this work in favour a little

I think we must be the only club unable to get a decent fee for a 29-year-old striker scoring 13 goals the previous season! Would we have expected to get such a player for free!!??

It's wages, isn't it? He's in the final year of a ridiculous 5-yr parachute money, pre-Covid deal that could probably pay the salaries of 3-4 good Championship players in this environment. Nobody in the Champ this summer will be getting anywhere near that bizarre deal he got in 2018 wih wages supposedly having collapsed by 60% It'll be interesting to see if even parachute Watford can manage a fee as well as dealing with that.

Watford could certainly afford to pay a decent fee for him and his enormous wages but sadly he'll probably just go on a 12 month loan until the end of his contract.

Would there be much difference in loan or permanent fee anyway? In the last year of his contract he’s not worth a huge amount, so you could argue that either a loan or perm fee wouldn’t be too far apart.

It depends on how much they want him and how hard we want to negotiate but I'd guess we'd just be happy getting the majority of his wages off the wage bill so we'd settle for the loan option. In an ideal world we'd tell them 2 million on a permanent deal but they know we're a bit fucked financially and will take advantage.

If Afobe is on around 30k a week, which wouldn't be too far off the average for that profile of player at that time, that is a yearly figure of 1.5M. If Watford could strike a deal with Afobe where they give him 2 or 3 years but spread that money out over the duration of that contract (which a lot of clubs do these days when trying to get an older player in on higher money) then we might get a nominal to decent fee to cover any 'loyalty' payments that might exist in his contract.

Disappointing, but not surprising if another loan to Rowett is the best we can do

But Athletic confirm Watford interest, which is encouraging theathletic.com/live-blogs/transfer-news-premier-league-latest/gUR60igg0Ocv/Stoke City's Benik Afobe is on a list of strikers that Watford are assessing and may consider making an approach. The 29-year-old who spent last season on loan at Millwall — scoring 13 goals in 41 appearances — has one year remaining on his contract. Sources at Watford have confirmed that he is one of a number of strikers that the club are looking at. Signing at least one forward in the transfer window is a priority, with Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer also confirmed as being of interest. Head coach Rob Edwards worked with Afobe when he was on the coaching staff at Wolves.

If Millwall can offer money for the Scottish midfielder, they can give us money for Afobe 🤣

If Millwall can offer money for the Scottish midfielder, they can give us money for Afobe 🤣 The Aberdeen kiddie is probably being paid a couple of grand and a few cans of Irn Bru though So maybe the package makes him affordable. Dealing with Afobe's silly wages seems impossible in this environment for a non-parachute club, without even thinking about a fee. Whether Watford could do it, who knows? Suppose it depends what other options they have as to how willing they are

If Millwall can offer money for the Scottish midfielder, they can give us money for Afobe 🤣 The £1.5 million fee will be probably be over three years which with wages included will cost them nowhere near £1 million a year. Afobe's wages alone would come to approx £2 million a year. Best we can probably do is an increased wage contribution unless there is genuine interest from Watford 🙏🙏🙏

Watford have lost another forward to MLS. Cucho Hernandez to Columbus Crew Hopefully a bit more wiggle room for Benny.
Their fans seem split on him joining
