There’s life in this game yet, we know this team can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Plus if we lose it’ll make my “3 nil no mither” prediction look a bit silly.
We have to be positive but not gung ho, that’s when we’re at our best, finding the balance with Stokes back will be tricky

Ultimately we were defeated by losing our last 8 wickets for 80 in the first innings, as well as our inability to put away the Pakistani tail, but that was a dogs dinner of a run chase......

Pope is 31st in current test batsman rankings, he's easily our lowest ranked specialist batsman, there are 6 Australians ahead of him. His place in the team should definitely be coming under closer scrutiny. edit : Bairstow is still ranked 32, and that is based on failures which led to him being dropped! |

The toss was the crucial point of this game. Whoever was going to bat last on a used pitch was always going to struggle. We needed to have a first innings lead of at least 100 to have much of a chance and for a while it looked possible until the collapse. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pakistan Board are organising a game to be played now on the 3rd Test pitch!
At least India are getting pummelled.

I put a £10 on India to win after the New Zealand innings ended, figured they might rattle up 550 and put the pressure on the Kiwis. If they lose I'll be happy, if they win I'll be a few quid better off. Always like to bet on football/cricket games when one team is one their knees, I've had some surprisingly good returns doing it....... |

I’m all for home advantage it makes test cricket more exciting, prepare a pitch however you choose but it must be one that is capable of lasting 5 days. So if it’s spinning sideways in the first session or a green top that’s swinging round corners on day one that shouldn’t be allowed. 2/3 day tests will eventually kill the format off….. |
