Another test, another empty stadium. Aside from us and Australia during the Ashes, does anyone actually watch Test cricket?!

Is it really like that nearly everywhere else? Unfortunately mate that was pretty standard for most test match attendances outside of England and Australia. I think the saddest one to see is West Indies because the stadiums used to be so vibrant.

I think the saddest one to see is West Indies because the stadiums used to be so vibrant. I assumed the Windies was a wider problem within their own cricket teams as they’re rather poor in all formats. Michael Holding always seemed unhappy with things. I guess it’s just how society has changed over the years with shorter attention spans. There’s not many sports that take up so much time to get a match result as test cricket.

Pakistan win the toss and bat first.
One over in and the pitch looks like an absolute road……

So they are using the same pitch that they used in the last game. This seems to be a late decision as they appear to have prepared adjoining strips. Looks like a good toss to win. I think batting fourth will be quite tricky.

Shame the England women imploded yesterday under pressure. They managed to drop the same batter five times which takes some doing in a 20 over game!

Fielding is one area of the women’s game that doesn’t seem to be improving, certainly nowhere near the rate the batting and bowling is. I saw a stat yesterday that there’s been an average of five catches dropped per game in this World Cup. The Windies dropped a couple that you’d honestly expect an U9’s player to take.

Is it really like that nearly everywhere else? I have been lucky to follow England with the Barmy Army and arranged independent tours with mates over the last 6 years. Crowds in SrI Lanka, India and South Africa were fair with the stadiums being half full, not so many in the West Indies but I have never seen any stadium as empty as in Pakistan. Off to Barbados in a couple of weeks.

Off to Barbados in a couple of weeks. Reading the backstory to this, there seems to be a number of reasons for this. The primary one being that these are being played on working days and its virtually impossible for workers to get time off at short notice. The short notice element is that this Test match was only arranged at this venue something like 17 days before it took place. The venue (and city) was switched at short notice and the the second test was not meant to be here either apparently. It shows a total neglect of Test cricket by the cricketing organisations. But it could be just waning interest in the long form with all the hype and marketing being focused on short form. On another note, a word for Ben Duckett. I was sceptical about his inclusion initially but he is one of only 3 English batsman averaging over 40 after 28 Tests, way better than Crawley and Pope, that's a really good effort. Well done to him.

Off to Barbados in a couple of weeks. I did Lahore in 2000 (bore draw) and the crowds were pretty decent from memory. Pakistani's absolutely love test cricket (more so than Indians these days who seem to be all about the short format) so there will be financial/logistical reasons why there's not at least a good few thousand watching.......

Looks like a very good toss to have won.
If playing on a used pitch is going to become a regular thing in Pakistan then they should bring in a ruling where the home side has to forfeit the toss if the game is being played on used pitch.

Well done to him. Duckett was superb. When I was in India earlier this year the crowd was bolstered by hundreds of schoolchildren who were constantly singing and dancing and really added to the atmosphere.

Probably vulnerable against pace moving away but who isn’t really?

This is where Bazball winds me up, I'm all for being positive but 3 balls into a really tricky period before the close with a hard, bouncy new ball Duckett is sweeping aggressively.
Not sure if it's a lack of common sense, arrogance or both?

I feel partly responsible!...I should have known when I posted something about Duckett yesterday he would do something really stupid next up!
