Very good day for England. With 300 on the board, we are well in the game. It seems as if this pitch will deteriorate so good to get the runs on the board first up.
Hopefully we can exploit the cracks and Anderson and Robinson are experts in nipping it off the seam. My favourite thing about today is that we've put 90 overs into their bowlers legs, and given our bowlers an extra day to put their feet up.

So pleased for Root. He needed that and so did England.
We can kick on from here as they have to bat last.

It's nice to see Joe Root back in the team. We've missed him. You simply cannot beat a proper attritional test match knock. Strike rates below 50. Love to see it Finally the intelligence to play the condition of the Wicket not BazBall regardless

Having woken up expecting to see us on the victory charge I have to say we’re having a stinker of a morning.

Having woken up expecting to see us on the victory charge I have to say we’re having a stinker of a morning. I think this partnership is key. If these two can get us to a 150-175+ lead you suspect the Indian heads might drop. Bairstow and Stokes coming in with pressure off is always fun one way or another.

Yeah a lot is on these two as Stokes and Bairstow aren’t having the best series. The pitch hasn’t deteriorated as much as it looked like it was going to so we could do with setting them at least 250, ideally 300+.

Don't think we'll even get a lead of 200 the way we are going

There’s something a bit dodgy about the Root dismissal. It clearly looked like more of the ball was pitching outside the leg stump than on it yet the umpires call was overturned.

Really poor weekend this
Stoke English rugby English cricket
I’m going to pretend it didn’t exist
There’s times I wished I was born an Australian Man City supporting fan.
I’m sure we’ll be back but this weekends as bad as it gets.

No matter how exciting and good this england team are we've still always got that one awful self destructive day in us. Until we cut that out we'll never be up there with India and Australia.

3-1 India.
We’ve been in every game but ultimately a couple of really bad days have cost us.
I can’t be too critical as without Bazball we’d have just been sitting ducks on these wickets and lost heavily, that said this is the weakest India line up for quite some time so l can’t help thinking it’s a missed opportunity…..

Stokes and Team Baz do have a weird way of making every defeat feel like a positive! I actually think the summer will be the biggest Test Stokes has as skipper. We are absolutely huge favorites against both opponents and anything other than routine victories will be criticised. With our flimsy bowling attack (the weakest I can ever remember from an England side), a batting line up coming under more and more scrutiny and a massively inexperienced Windies and Sri Lanka side coming here with zero expectation of anything other than a 3-0 drubbing, I have a feeling we could be in for quite the summer of cricket. It'll be far from routine.

I'd go with something like this for the summer tests: Crawley Duckett Pope Root Brook Stokes Foakes Carse Potts/Robinson Bashir/Hartley Atkinson

It's pretty scary to see that bowling attack in writing though! So fragile. I'm still convinced Hartley is a club cricketer and once he gets found out this summer will be nowhere near the England test side ever again. Obviously hope I'm wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, Jimmy Anderson has earned the right to decide when he wants to go. I'm sure he would like to have a farewell at home like Broad and Cook did so if he wants to play this season then that's fine by me. He is still our best bowler and arguably our fittest as well.

I agree that we will be favourites but the West Indies have just won a test in Australia and always seem to raise their game against us so it could be quite a battle but hopefully entertaining to watch.

West Indies look like they could be the up, and I hope so, it will be good for the game. But still a very young team.

As much as I'd love to see it, I simply can't see this test in Dharamsala going ahead this week. It's still very cold and too early in the year to play cricket at that altitude.
Thursdays forecast is 1 degrees and sleet. By Sunday it's up to a balmy 7 degrees! We don't even play in this country when it's that cold!
The Aussies were scheduled to play a test there on their last tour too, but it was moved to Indore a couple of weeks beforehand. Think it's a bit late to do the same now!

Ben Stokes has just posted on his Instagram this morning, him and a few of the squad going for a run around the local area. It looks chilly and the hills and mountains are all covered in snow.
