Good can’t stand him. Good player though. Missing for personal reasons but ok…….. Must be pretty serious to be missing for such a length of time.

I have a little bit of sympathy for Virat Kohli. He has to cope with a ridiculous amount of adulation from the Indian public. I remember Tendulkar giving an interview once where he said that he liked touring other countries because he could go out to a bar or a restaurant without being mobbed.

I wonder if this is the end of the road for Jack Leach. In home tests we will only need one spinner and both Hartley and Rehan have settled in well and both offer more with the bat. Meanwhile we are going to pick an extra seamer for the 3rd test with Mark Wood joining Anderson. I think this should give us better balance.

Wood worries me, everyone’s keen to big up his pace and you can’t fault his endeavour but he’s just too easy to put away to the boundary. He is capable of a short spell where he gets a few wickets but I would have been tempted to go with Atkinson……

A terrible day for England so far, 2 reviews that we haven't taken that would have been out including one knocking out middle stump, a dropped catch, some rank bad long hops particularly from Root and just a general feeling of this game being over already. By day 3 it's going to be pretty much unplayable according to the experts......

I don't think it was a terrible day. We bowled well in the first session. The dropped catch was costly. I don't think Joe Root is a good slip fielder to the spinners. Stokes always used to field there until his knee problems. We haven't used DRS very well in the whole series. Run out was a bonus at the end. We need to strike early with the new ball tomorrow and hopefully bowl them out for no more than 420.

What do we imagine that track will have turned into by the time our brave boys go out to bat?

Another good start followed by another annoying partnership, and the way this pitch is going, we won't make a dent into their 1st innings score

Great day for England. Need parity or a small lead to really put pressure on them, batting last on this pitch will be a minefield......

450-500 suddenly seems like a long way away.
I love the attitude of the England cricket team in general but shots like Root’s dismissal are just idiotic. You can have a positive mindset without being totally rash.
Can’t see a way back from here……

It’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity, and we’ve crossed it this morning.
204/2 to 312/9 when they’re a bowler down is not good enough…..

England have effectively chucked the match away this morning. The golden rule in India is that you have to get the runs in the first innings. I wouldn't want to be chasing more than 250 batting last.

The one that really annoys me is Joe Root. He is too good a batsman to be getting out the way he is. He is naturally a quick scorer anyway so he doesn't need to play these funky shots. I think it's time for someone to have a word with him. He needs to go back to playing the way he was when he was captain.

That lack of flexibility with Bazball will always mean that this side will never quite fulfil its potential. We’ve already had some stunning victories and I’m sure we’ll have many more but the games we’ve thrown away from very good positions are starting to tot up.

We’ve already had some stunning victories and I’m sure we’ll have many more but the games we’ve thrown away from very good positions are starting to tot up. The lack of recovery time for our bowlers is a big issue, Wood bowled more overs in the first innings than any other bar one in his career, Anderson bowled a load too. To then expect them to come out firing again at their age and with Wood's fitness issues is a mammoth ask. Look at the Indian starting XI this series as well, lots of debutants and a batting line up that's nowhere near as strong as recent years, and despite having 2/3 world class bowlers some of the shots we've got out to have been really bad. I think to not win this series would be a massive lost opportunity.................

I think it's time for someone to have a word with him. He needs to go back to playing the way he was when he was captain. He can score at 4/5 an over playing conventional shots without breaking sweat, pre-Bazball he’d come in to bat you’d blink and he’d be 30 not out. It makes absolutely no sense…..
