I thought the whole philosophy was for the players to 'go out and express themselves' and play how they see fit. So it's not like Root is under pressure to play unconventional. He's choosing to.
The one that really annoys me is Joe Root. He is too good a batsman to be getting out the way he is. He is naturally a quick scorer anyway so he doesn't need to play these funky shots. I think it's time for someone to have a word with him. He needs to go back to playing the way he was when he was captain.
He can score at 4/5 an over playing conventional shots without breaking sweat, pre-Bazball he’d come in to bat you’d blink and he’d be 30 not out.
It makes absolutely no sense…..
Yeah agree it's starting to get increasingly annoying. We are watching the world's finest batsman trying to change his game to suit a philosophy. If he goes back to being Joe Root there is a good chance he could surpass Sachin's test record.

I imagine there will be a lot of dressing room pressure to stick to the baz ball philosophy though, even if it isn't an order.

As others have pointed out he naturally accumulates runs quickly, which puts pressure back on the bowlers, which is the baz ball philosophy.
I think Root’s poor performance so far this series is partly down to the amount he is being asked to bowl. His focus is split and small percentages make a big difference even to the very best players.
Bairstow is another matter though and should be dropped for the next test. Is Brook fit?

Duckett’s interview yesterday when he said “the higher the target the better we’ll just try and chase it” was mind blowing. Ever likely the rest of the world views us as arrogant, I’d love us to make history but if we’re going to lose (and we are) I’d happily see us skittled out for 150 so we can at least take stock and add a dash of pragmatism to Bazball. They’re in danger of making themselves look silly …….
That should be Bairstow’s last ever shot in red bell cricket for England. Braindead batting…..
You'd hope so, but out of the travelling party who replaces him? Post this tour the obvious replacement is Brook, but he'll probably end up with the gloves and foakes be dropped for the Windies visit in July.

There’s only Lawrence.
Unless they drafted Jennings in from the Lions squad currently touring India…..

I'm always baffled by the way a team can make batting look easy and score runs effortlessly, only for the opposition to then come out onto the same pitch and totally crumble. Is it just momentum? Fatigue from fielding for so long?

Foakes is one of the few world class players in the side

Their bowling attack is far far better than ours as well which makes a difference….

So just the 434 runs difference between the two sides then. I like Baz Ball but there are times when we need to just be a bit smarter and adapt to the game situation. For the next test the seam bowlers will need to be rotated with Robinson and Atkinson probably coming in. Don't think there will be any changes to the batting line up but we need more from Root and Bairstow.

I can see Lawrence getting an opportunity in the next 2 tests. The Lions squad flew home about 2 weeks ago I think. I would've given Bohannon a chance at 5 but he's not 'Bazball' enough it seems 🤷♂️

2 changes for England. Robinson and Bashir in for Wood and Rehan. I'm surprised that Anderson is going to play again. I thought he might be in need of a rest. There is a possibility we might see Stokes the bowler in this game. No change to the batting line up which doesn't surprise me. It would be difficult for a new batter to come in at this stage of the tour. No Bumrah for India.
