So Billings is allowed to bat then? Another aggressive ball striker. Yeah the Covid replacements have to be a like for like. So it had to be a wicketkeeper batter. I was just thinking of who's been in and around the setup recently. Obviously Buttler was last in that position before Foakes took over in the Caribbean, but it feels to me like he's been dispensed with as far as Test cricket is concerned. So other options would be Billings who played in that last Ashes test, or Phil Salt who's been keeping for Lancs and opening in the ODI's. Can't think of too many others to be honest. They couldn't let Bairstow keep and bring in another batter because that wouldn't have been like for like. Interesting decision though for the next test v India, because if Foakes doesn't make it, do they keep Billings in? Or let Bairstow keep and bring in another batter/all rounder maybe? There’s also Tom Banton maybe

Is Leach the best spinner we have. I’m sure he’s a great guy but he just doesn’t in-still me with much confidence.

This tactic of letting the game drift for 10/15 overs before the new ball really pisses me off…….

This tactic of letting the game drift for 10/15 overs before the new ball really pisses me off……. Was just about to post the same. Stokes should be bowling with Leach now until the new ball is due. As well as Mitchell and Blundell have batted this series they’ve been very fortunate they’ve found themselves in the middle for this period in every game.

These Mitchell/Blundell partnerships are infuriating. How have two such bang average players managed to score so many runs?

Robinson impressed me last summer with his ability but Potts has great ability and equally as important, the physical conditioning that Robinson lacks. Looks a great find.

It’ll be interesting to see what they’ll declare on Imagine they’ll want at least a 350 lead and there’s quite a way to reach that yet

People banging on about Jack Leach being rejuvenated, and England's spinner long-term. There has been some poor dismissals from the NZ batters. Leach is very much a bang average county spinner for me, and will be replaced eventually by Matt Parkinson.

It’s going to be interesting to see how England go about the run chase in the final innings of this game. Assuming we are chasing something between 250 and 300, we’ll probably have 4 sessions (at least) to get them in so no need to chase hard. But will we go for it hard when we could adopt a low risk chase (although I am aware our batting is always high risk to some degree!). I think I’ll move into the cricket prediction business. England need 295 in 4 and sessions. What I won’t predict is how we’ll go about it. Well, other than losing some early wickets! Of course.

With Boult and Southee it would be crazy to go hard in the first 15 overs. See those two off though (which is easier said than done) and we stand a good chance, both sides have struggled when the ball is slightly worn and I think NZ are lacking a bowler. Hopefully we have learnt our lesson from the first innings, get a good start and tomorrow should be another cracking day of test cricket.

Haha yeh I know what you mean it was just some devilish pedantry😉 Pleased for the lad I really am but even though he got 10 in the match it never felt like he had there batsmen bamboozled like Warne often did. More like they were slightly off on there slogs. Good luck to him though hopefully it’ll boost his confidence.

Oh just fuck off Crawley. Brain dead! I don’t blame Crawley for that particularly. Ok, there was no call and he was watching the ball. But what the fuck was Lees doing ambling half way down the wicket without a call. He was assuming there was going to be a run and Crawley was going. But that was a big and wrong assumption. Lees has only himself to blame for being gormless.
