There's an interview with a nurse (colleague) who says on nightshifts when the baby monitoring alarms went off in one particular unit they had a saying "Is Lucy on Nights Tonight" as they went running towards the emergency shows there was a consistency to things happening when Letby was at work. Totally get this isn't conclusive evidence itself of any wrong doing No smoke without fire and all that! All leads towards the obvious with clearly other more provable evidence that was obtained and presented to the court. The fact senior consultants tried to raise their concerns over Letby's behaviour and the fact the hospital wouldn't act upon it is quite shocking actually aswell as lives I'm sure could have been saved if the authorities had been alerted earlier. Perhaps even surveillance equipment could have been used to catch her in the act to put irrefutable evidence towards her in plain view.. I definitely think that the hospital management have serious questions to answer & no doubt whoever was in charge 7 or 8 or so years ago when her behaviour was going unchallenged will have likely long retired by now with a big fat pension & no memory of what had been going on! They need quizzing hard about why the concerns raised by senior figures on the ground weren't actioned & went ignored. There needs to be a public inquiry while she spend the rest of her life in Broadmoor and some heads should roll when they discover all the facts about how management handled the situation. But, like the Post Office scandal, they'll weasel their way out of it somehow with a big fat pension payout. OS.

Fascinating programme on beeb 1 at the moment. Just watching it. Its bizarre watching all these interviews with colleagues, former friends & other expert witnesses that must have been filmed well in advance of todays jury decision. Watching this it's like its clear to everyone barring the jury (& correctly so) that she was guilty as charged! Fair play to the consultant Dr Stephen Brearey, he raised clear and obvious concerns that were either shunned or ignored! Shocking! The hospital got a lot to answer for here! Letbys guilty verdict is purely the 1st chapter of this inquiry. Bet there's a few guilty people out their who are bricking it now, & rightly so!

Absolutely no concern whatsoever (purely from watching this BBC programme) that there is any doubt at all in the Jurys guilty verdict of Lucy Letsby today!
& Senior Management at the Countess of Chester Hospital are just as complicit in the outcome as Letby. She was effectively allowed to carry on unquestioned despite numerous high profile medical staff raising genuine concerns. Absolutely shocking to hear all this background story!
Not notifying the police, covering up the issues and outcomes & infact apologising to Letby & striking Dr's off with threats to keep quiet! FFS

I think some form of criminal charges should be handed out to Senior Management (Hospital Bosses). And they should of been made to appear on the programme.

I imagine they'll all be retired and suffering from some condition that'll prevent them being questioned or even brought to justice for what their inactivity & cover ups achieved! They should be forced to be brought to justice or lose their pensions and assets straight away, it really should be that simple, they're definitely as culpable as Letby from the point they were first made aware anyway. 1x death in that maternity unit in the 7x years since Letby was eventually taken off front line duties, yet she was on shift for each and every one of the numerous deaths prior to that point whilst she was working on that unit! Shocking!

Evil.
I very rarely use that word but I can't find another.
Word seems to be she was having an affair with the Registrar. So attention seeking hoping he would come in and be the hero saving them.
Plausible?

I’m sure that they will have gone through many, many steps to try and figure out what was going on. I can’t imagine that they just sat back and ignored it. The idea that it was a nurse murdering babies probably wasn’t in a manual. It’s such a rare and truly unbelievable notion. There should have been an independent review as soon as it was clear that there was an unexpected rise in the number of deaths. I feel so sorry for the parents of those that have lost their beautiful children at the hands of this f****ing monster.

Plausible? I was drawn to the power over life theory, especially after the evidence of a doctor when he came across her standing next to an incubator with a two day old baby inside just watching life ebb away and doing nothing. This was after (I think it was one of the occasions) insulin was found in the childs system. As soon as he appeared she jumped into action and snapped out of her trance. Entirely plausible re the attention seeking from a lover but I'd guess that the odds might be pretty slim on the registrar being the one saving the day, who knows.

I wonder what the sentence will be for the caring NHS staff who effectively aided and abetted her www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66120934Hospital bosses failed to investigate allegations against Lucy Letby and tried to silence doctors, the lead consultant at the neonatal unit where she worked has told the BBC. The hospital also delayed calling the police despite months of warnings that the nurse may have been killing babies. The unit's lead consultant Dr Stephen Brearey first raised concerns about Letby in October 2015. No action was taken and she went on to attack five more babies, killing two. Just watching the report on C4 news. Clearly the parents need answers as to how the concerns raised weren’t acted on quicker. I just hope that the public remember this is very much an isolated case and that the vast majority of those working in the NHS do a fantastic job. I’m sure all those nurses who do an amazing job on a daily basis are sickened by this. It is an isolated case in respect of the issue of a nurse murdering her patients however in the case of NHS cover ups it seems to be on the increase this must be the third adverse report on the NHS I've heard of in the last two months.

My daughter was born at the Countess - just a few years before Letby arrived. My dad was taken to the Countess when he collapsed some years ago, i popped in to visit him, I came out with Norovirus. The only Hospital I've ever been in overnight was Stafford General - now renamed county after the mortality scandal there. I was born in 1961, my mother was offered thalidomide for her morning sickness - thankfully she declined. My dad went into Leighton with a chest infection, he came out in a box
Is it any wonder I don't trust these institutions and avoid going...

Instinctively I have similar feelings, but also feel like a life to reflect on her depravity is arguably worse. Especially considering there was some evidence her conscience was tortured? . Certainly, a lifetime filled with guilt would undoubtedly be a torment in itself, especially if she possesses even a shred of conscience. I strongly suspect that, if she were to undergo a CT scan, it would likely reveal areas of her brain exhibiting dysfunction. It is difficult to fathom that a person of sound mind could commit the deeds she has done. There must have been some incident in her earlier life that drove her to become like this. On the face of it, coming from a settled home, first one from her family to go to university etc. Did she actually have a difficult upbringing? Did she have failed relationships and was jealous of new families? Did she learn that she could never have children of her own? In her own twisted way, did she think ending these babies’ lives was a mercy so that they did not have to go through whatever she was experiencing in her own sad life? There will no doubt be numerous psychological assessments on her to understand why she did what she did.

Unfortunately I can see why this type of thing can happen while in hospital I had to call 999 and 111 on more than one occasion as patients lives were being put at risk eg wrong medication etc the ward manager responded with actually nothing even prompted some a blind eye was turned as long as they did stats at the right time in time nothing was done about compitabce or standard of care it was astonishing to see the amount of cover ups and none investigation you would have thought they would have been spot on given this and other cases this was shocking

There’s no bigger example of this than the Met which needs to be split into a number of different area forces so it can be managed on a more local level. Add to that people at the very top of most businesses often being more interested in their career than there own ethics ang “making” things work even if they’re not at the fear of losing there jobs if they dare to challenge the government or shareholders for the cuts that have left them fighting a failing system.

There will no doubt be numerous psychological assessments on her to understand why she did what she did. Why would there necessarily have to be an incident in her life? It could have been some sort of latent mental illness, a chemical imbalance, Munchausen by proxy etc. A lot of our actions are rooted in our past experiences but most people don't systematically murder anyone, let alone seven babies.

They made the Dr's apologise to her? 😮
There's always people trying to protect their own positions in these circumstances.
It's the families I feel really sorry for.
She was the only one on shift in each and every time an incident occurred which is pretty damning in itself.

Completely incomprehensible. Her evil actions took the lives of desperately ill children and have ruined the lives of their parents/loved ones.
Spare a thought for the other medical professionals in her department as well.

For many it's a secure and despite popular opinion a reasonably well paid job that many seems to do purely for the benefits and not because they genuinely care

Lad was in Birmingham’s children hospital for 2 weeks for heart surgery, and they were absolutely amazing there… Then my daughter up here with misdiagnosed strep A (twice) sent home with wrong medication, readmitted again (fuck ups just went on and on)
