Souttar isn't inexperienced any more, in fact all three are reasonably battle hardened More game time than most people their age, definitely But still probably the youngest defence in the country? And if we get a young RB on loan, Souttar would potentially be the oldest in the back 6? How many of us would of guessed that at the start of last season. I'm all up for a younger defence that will improve over an experienced defence that is deteriorating

Superb against us last season. Was he? That’s good news. I can’t actually recall either Coventry game🤦🏻♂️ You're lucky on that front Badgo. Certainly comes highly rated by many Coventry fans .

I noticed that Norrington Davies wasn't in the Sheff Utd squad yesterday. We could get Tom back from New York for the other flank? (careful Maine!)

He seems to like the 3 at the back crap. Batth cannot be trusted in it. Chester is a liability. And Fox isn’t a CB. So it makes sense if he’s persisting with it which I think he will. And a back 3 of this guy, Souttar and Wilmot is very good. Can't argue with Souttar, Wilmot and Ostigard looking the 3 strongest players - and it's hard to see any of that group being rotated a great deal given where they are in their career and why they've joined. But it would be pretty noteworthy if he went with a 22yo and two 21yos in the back 3 - playing in front of a 21yo keeper (and another 21yo at LWB) Obviously they won't play every game regardless with injury and suspension - but all 3 of Batth, Chester and Fox regularly being on the bench or in the stands seems unlikely, and that pool of players does look top heavy by one - in terms of keeping people happy and in touching distance of a game? Chester is already injured and may not play much part. In fact I'd be surprised if he wasn't only here because of the option in his contract. Fox is a full back. That leaves us with 4 players for 3 places including a 20 yr old loanee who may or may not be first choice.

Fair point but we have Baby Slice now. Quite a fighty and angry gentleman despite sounding like a pink frosted Mr Kipling cake.

I don't think he'll be happy playing one game every couple of months? Souttar, Wilmot and this new guy (if he's got a choice of half a dozen clubs) will obviously expect to play when fit. Fox is a full-back - but sounds like this signing means we won't be playing a back 4 any time soon now - and I really don't think he's a wing-back (and I think he's shown that when played there) It could be workable - but it could get awkward (but that's for MON to deal with)

he will be the preferred right back when we play a back 4, he will give extra heading threat off set pieces at both ends. he gives extra cover at centre back, aggressive and good in the air but unlike Batthe is confortable playing out from the back- and at 21 his wages will be low enough

I'm liking the direction of our transfer strategy this season it has to be said, why oh why did we not do this after relegation? (rhetorical no need for the debate again? ) Think it tells us he wants to play 5 at the back tbh Really need other positions first before a centre half

Do we think this means the 3-5-2 is here for the forseeable, rather than being a means to an end? Depends how you look at it I see it as 5 at the back

If he were to start playing Fox at LWB for instance I'd fookin slate him for that.

Depends how you look at it I see it as 5 at the back Just depends on selection and the brief that the selected players are given. It's a good system when played the way it reads Conte at Chelsea played it how I like to see the formation played. It does worry me with MON because he can be overly cautious, then I agree it's just 5 at the back.

If there’s one thing that pisses me off is being negative especially at home. Pauli’s was very negative away it did my head in But mon was negative at home last season even against the lesser teams. If we get beat being positive I can just about accept that. To lose being negative makes me want to throw things about 😡

Unless we sell Souttar he’d have to surely? They’re the best players for the job by a mile. From the outside, it looks that way and when you go through all 3, it's hard to see them not playing pretty much all the time. But it is hard to see MON going full-Bayern and not wanting some experience back there - it's something he's always mentioned. Interesting to see how it plays out! All of him have experience at this level though. And as Batth showed on Saturday, he's not good enough in a back 3. Chester can play in there but if he signs this fella then he's got to play all 3.

A lovely blend of experience & promising youth now with.
People wanting Chester and Batth to move on need to give their head a wobble, they're invaluable to the youngsters

Ditto if you can't see that Reading funnelled the ball to Batth deliberately and we'd go long from that. MON wants the ball playing from the back, you cannot do that with Batth in the side period. Same for Allen tbh.
