I donβt recall that commentary, strange watched this in a nightclub in either Sardinia or Sicily can't remember which but was free drink as were invited by a local doctor. Long story. the waitresses were all 9/10. first time I discovered Moretti beer and special Italian hospitality . They knew how to celebrate. Best team in that tournament I thought Bit young for waitressing surely?

What a superb thread, thanks for all the clips & bringing back some brilliant memories
I fell in love with football during italia90 & Serie A & Italy as place was ever ingrained in me, Gazzetta & a game on Sunday made the weekend
Roberto Baggio was my first footballing hero, I remember getting my Diadora RB10s & marveling at his signature on the heal

For those enjoying the nostalgia trip I'd suggest a look here for the opportunity to display your reverence for your favourite 90s serie A team or hero. art-of-football.com/collections/serie-aThe quality is top notch and the prices not ridiculous. Baggio and Batigol for me, but I loved the Juve, Fiorentina and Sampdoria sides of the channel 4 era.

Is it? The top end of the Premier League is higher but the rest of the division is worse Champions League isn't as strong International sides not as strong either Yep, would agree. Liverpool and Manchester City are much better but cant think of anything or anyone else tbh. Man Utd are awful and they are still 6th and got a chance of Champions League which until the quarter finals is a non-event and totally uncompetitive. The gap between them and the rest is widening. I suppose Real Madrid are hanging in there but they are not as good as many previous Real Madrid teams. Italian club teams are poor. International football is pretty dire. Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain and Italy have all gone downhill. Italy won the Euros because there was not much to beat.

It was mate, and done without their 2 first choice centre halves, Baresi and Costacurta. The last great Milan side of that era until the early 2000s with Pirlo, Sheva etc It was the Dutch connection that attracted me to Milan, loved that late 80s Dutch team, especially Ruud Gullit. Also the red and black striped shirts struck a chord. To be faire Fiorentina and Sampdoria had ace kits aswell

Barcelona were an irresistible attacking force yet Milan set about them and nobody could've expected it. In the build up Cruyff dismissively pointed out Milan could have got Romario but got Desailly instead. And that was that so we thought.

Franco Baresi. One of the classiest central defenders I've ever seen. And managed to look 60 when he was 30. Im sure it was Ray Wilkins that once said at the end of the game, while all the other players were dripping in sweat, Baresi looked like hed barely broken sweat and still smelt of Armani aftershave. He was that good at reading the game, his onpitch movement was minimal Possibly the best Centre half ever

Dejan Savicevic, fantastic goal that night, what a brilliantly skilled player he was, another one of those mercurial number 10's who was unplayable on his day and nondescript on other occasions, two European Cup wins with different teams though and a real treat to watch his mazy dribbling when he was on song.
