Depressing that I’m now desperate for them to draw.

As much as England's negative and quite frankly pitiful response has been today, it has to be said India have bowled and fielded superbly from ball one........

A tiny glimmer of hope while Woakes survives, then the game is up. He took us to victory against Pakistan from a not dissimilar position...

I don't think England have been negative in their response. Not a lot you can to do to be positive when you lose 6 wkts for less than 50 runs when chasing a lot.

I love Moeen Ali but seriously his test days are well and truly numbered. I wouldn't even turn to Leach for Old Trafford, the forecast is for hot weather, the situation is primed for Matt Parkinson to play........ This has been a really poor test for Mo. Dreadful dismissal in the first innings. No control in his bowling in India’s second innings - 26 overs going at over 4.5 per over and not one maiden. A 4 ball duck in the second innings. Let’s not forget either we spunked away all our reviews on his bowling or that abysmal missed run out. But, he’s vice captain now so he looks like he may be around the scene for a while yet.

It's got to be Moeen and Overton out and Leach/Parkinson and Wood in with Woakes batting at 7. Even Bairstow must be looking over his shoulder after a poor series with the bat, the fact that he's keeping wicket will no doubt save him......

It ain’t going to happen.

There are few things better than a Test which can go all three ways in the final session of the last day. I suspect a draw is the best we can hope for, but it's unlikely.

The only consolation is that England's best 2 batsmen are at the crease.

I have more faith in Woakes than any of our "batsmen" apart from Root, I think that says it all about this side.

That would be the same Chris Woakes we took on tour to Sri Lanka and India last year and didn’t, I think, pick him for any game. He should be nailed on for #8 in our test team home or away.

Well, we got to tea so England have surpassed my expectations.
Strangely, I derive no pleasure from that achievement.
Well done India.
At the crucial moments in this match, you’ve delivered.
As to England, well, let’s be fair. India are a very good test team. England aren’t. We did very well to get one test win in this series with a team as weak as ours.

What would most fans prefer, win World Cups at White ball Cricket, but have a poor Test team, or the other way round? Is it possible to have both, with our domestic season the way it is?

Do you reckon Jimmy knew he tickled that but he chose to review just to stifle Kohli's over the top celebrations?

I'm probably a bit old school but I preferred us being the number one test side in the world. Just seemed more elite haha.

2-1 down at home with one to play is probably an accurate reflection of both sides quality.
They thrashed us comfortably at their place, back to back series victories in Australia, they're a very very good side.
I wouldn't be surprised to see us win the last one, if rain doesn't interfere, and square the series off. But if not, fair play to a very good side earning another away series win, which would be their 7th away win out of 18 series wins from their last 22 series. Impressive stuff.

Predictable capitulation bay our batters once India put us under a bit of pressure. Looking back on the match, once again our batting has let us down but it’s our fielding which has gone a long way to deciding our fate. Six more dropped catches and a couple of easy run-out opportunities missed. Its the same story after every game but it’s still the same culprits standing in the slips dropping them time and time again.
Would like to see a few changes for Old Trafford. Anderson and Robinson are cooked and with Silverwood saying they don’t want to be giving anyone their debut in Australia it’s time to get Mahmood and Parkinson into the side.

I’d love to see if Parky is ready for the step up. I think we bowled ok but for none of the middle order to stand up in the second innings was poor. I know it’s selfish but it would be great to have Stokes back.

The pitches at Old Trafford this summer have been very dry and spin friendly so this would be as good a time as any time give him a crack. We’ve missed Stokes and Archer massively this series. Our two X factor players capable of producing match winning moments of brilliance.

Might be a good idea to use Covid as an excuse not to go (most people seem to think we'll be in fresh lockdowns come the winter anyway) otherwise my 4-0 to Australia is looking somewhat more likely...

We could possibly see someone uncapped called up depending on the extent of Overton’s injury.

Cast your mind back to 1986…
That was the last time India won two tests in England winning a 3 test series 2-0, The other country touring that summer was New Zealand who triumphed 1-0 courtesy of a win in the second of the three tests.
That was the summer England banned Botham for smoking dope. He was recalled for the final test and did what he did at that stage of his career… took wickets with terrible bowling and smashed the ball to all corners with the bat.
If you care to look at England’s selections that summer you will be dumbfounded at how many poor players were picked as we kept reshuffling a useless pack.
But… and there is a but.
The following winter was an Ashes tour, and was one to remember as we battered the Aussies.
There is always hope, even in dark days.
