This is the most I've enjoyed a F1 season. Never really gotten into it before but now finding myself interested in the rules and tactics.
Sunday already in the calendar.
Haven't liked Lewis since BLM but I like his composure and calm nature when racing, compared to others.

Can’t recall if I mentioned it on this thread but my son did some electrical work with the Caterham F1 team a few years ago, told me afterwards that he could have had tickets for Silverstone but thought I would have not wanted them 😡😡😡

I remember it being a) really loud and b) boring, and I had top tier tickets near the start and pit stop lane. I think watching it on TV is better as you get all the info, replays and analysis as it happens across the whole track.

I was at Silverstone around 10 years ago and apart from seeing the cars go past the same bend over and over again, I didn't have a clue what was going on and which cars were in what position. I was bored shitless. I can't understand how grandstand fans enjoy watching F1. But the noise was just insane (this is before the V6 engines were brought in). It was deafening up in the crowds. It must've been ear-splitting down in the paddock.

Probably the best title battle for 20 years or so, maybe even further back. As others have said, I’ve got no time for Hamilton as a person really but what a driver! I reckon he’ll find a way in the last race! Goarrrn Lewis🙏🏻 Despite Lewis's success, I do think he needs to win this title to be considered the greatest. Yes, he has 7 titles but in all honesty, there is no true achievement in wupping the rest of the grid in a superior car where your nearest 'rival' is Bottas! I think he deserved his first, second and fourth (and maybe his fifth) titles, but the others were a walkover. Max is arguably the closest to equal competition in terms of machinery and ability he has come up against since Alonso. I can't wait for Sunday. I've never been Lewis's greatest fan (primarily because of his celebrity hangouts with rappers, tax evasion and shoving BLM in our faces at every opportunity), but I have a quiet respect for him. May the best driver win! He shouldn't need it to be fair.... more poles than anyone else in history, more wins than anyone else in history, more podiums than anyone else in history, more laps led than anyone else in history, more miles/km led than anyone else in history, more consecutive race starts than anyone else in history. Also not bothered about him as a bloke (although not for the same reasons, just find him pretty bland and hard to be anything other than apathetic towards) but whether people take to him or not as a person, as a sportsman he simply IS the greatest of all time in F1. Definitely would be nice to see him get 8 but as long as we get a good race on Sunday, i'm not arsed who wins this one. Both have had some stunning drives this season. These 2 will be going at it for another couple of years yet. As you say, good to see real competition. Been a cracking season

The only F1 I've ever been to was the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in the 60's. Jim Clarke won the race. It's only when you see them actually driving that you realise how skilled they are. I was mesmerised at how JC drifted the car through corners at amazing speeds. I was a jack-the-lad in my cars in those days but watching these brilliant guys made me realise what a dummy I really was. I did walk around the Monaco GP circuit with my lad, and Markelt and his Bro, and winger, and couldn't believe how they reached such speeds on the twisty roads.
I'm looking forward to this race, but because I like both of them, I'm torn as to who I want to win .

I've been to the British GP a few times, but I can say that the only time where it was better to be there than watch it on the telly was in 1992, where there was an atmosphere of mass hysteria for Nigel Mansell, and something akin to hatred of Ayrton Senna. I guess this year's Dutch GP was similar for Max vs Lewis where normally rational people loose their heads in support of a national hero.
On another point made by OS above, the first time you see an F1 car go around a series of medium speed corners, you will not forget it. I remember watching some of uncompetitive cars (10 second a lap slower than Mansell), going through the Vale and Club turns at seemingly unbelievable speeds.

Just seen the new track layout for Abu Dhabi, and it has been hugely improved in terms of providing overtaking opportunities. The previous version of the track had the potential for it being something of a processional race, but the new hairpin has multiple entry points that a driver like Verstappen will make full use of, even if his car is slower than Hamilton's.
Such a corner could decide the championship Max could legitimately slip one up the inside of Lewis and have a genuine "racing incident" and therefore take Lewis out without a penalty.
If the championship goes down to a countback, then ultimately it will be decided on that farce of a race at Spa, where Max "won" it without actually racing.

As for Spa when this happens again it should be declared then that the race is voided “only for countback purposes”

Verstappen on pole then, Hamilton 2nd and a superb 3rd from Norris.
Looking at the comments on the BBC F1 site and Verstappen starts on the soft tyres, apparently not a good tyre to start on??
Bottas down in 6th, disappointing again from him and glad he’s going after tomorrow’s race.

This is set up perfectly for Lewis as long as he can come out of turn one in front of Norris. Lewis has the pace to stay with Max and his softer tyres, which in turn will force Max to make two stops, whereas Lewis will make just the one unless he gets a serious advantage during the race where he may take a second if he can retain track position.
Having max in pole means that Lewis can drive safe and know that Max will not be able to make a risky lunge into turn one. I can also see Lewis forcing Max to defend in ways that will cause early wear on Verstappen's tyres (probably the front right, and the rear tyres in sector two).
It will be interesting to see if Lewis pushes Max in the early stages, as Max will need a big early gap to make sure he does not come out into traffic after his first stop, Lewis will not have that problem as he will be able to go much longer before his first stop, and will build a comfortable gap over whoever is in second place.

Hamilton ideally placed in 2nd and not pole. This avoids the race to turn one and the possibility of being taken out by verstappen, also LH tyre strategy will have an advantage. Can see an easy win for Hamilton tomorrow.

Can see an easy win for Hamilton tomorrow. I hope so as I like Hamilton as a racer, as you say the risk of Verstappen crashing into him “should” be reduced. You’d have thought that Verstappen will have to stop around lap 15, Hamilton should go much further on a one stop, mind you watch Verstappen get a free pit stop like he did last week.

Turning out to be one of those sporting moments many will tune into even if they have no interest in motorsport. These two are like gold dust for promoters and as it’s on proper TV as well there will be an even bigger audience. Really looking forward to this even though I have little time for either of them.

Good that it's free-to-air too. Channel 4 and Sky coverage of F1 is like McDonald’s fries with Burger King burgers. The presentation and build up on C4 is far more watchable and enjoyable owing to Steve Jones’ sharp, witty, and laid-back humour and his chemistry with Webber, DC and Eddie Jordan. Simon Lazenby and co on Sky are a bit bland and ordinary. But the commentary of Brundle and Croft on Sky is more lively. I’ll be able to switch between the two channels like I used to before Sky bought out the rights.

Is the advantage with Hamilton despite being 2nd on the grid because of the tyre situation?.. you'd think if Lewis can stay relatively close to Max with the opportunity to move to a faster tyre later in the race he'll have a great chance to overtake near the end.. if Max doesn't smash into him.

Anyone reckon that if Hamilton wins the championship he may retire? He will have the record of most championships which I doubt anyone will beat and I heard a commentator saying how difficult it will be for him to win next year with Red Bull on the up and arguably a better co driver for him to concede points to in George Russel. Plus he’s had a taster in social commentary and may well think he can make a difference here. I just think he has other stuff to do, can’t see him handling being second well and his ego has to be given room to grow in other ways. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he jacked it in.

I think this is a point being totally ignored by the Hamilton haters, I can't for the life of me see what's likeable about Verstappen or Red Bull. I'm a rare breed of person who doesn't hate many people so I find it quite funny to watch all the venom directed towards Hamilton, hence why I stoked the fires a little earlier in the season to wind them all up.

Lando is my favourite driver on the grid by far, however Max is second. He’s what you want from an F1 driver, except when he’s out of the car he’s likeable, whereas Sir Lewis is a whining hypocritical knob in the car and an even bigger knob when he’s out of it. For what it’s worth I think both Horner and Wolff are unbearable arseholes and I think Red Bulls treatment of their talent that isn’t Max is pathetic.
