I've seen quite a few Barn Owls in flight whilst driving home off noons from work in Cheadle, and around the small nature reserve at the bottom end of Clayton where I live. One flew straight across the front of my car one night on Northwood Lane, proper shit me up They are def doing well so far this year the Barnies. I’ve seen a number flying in Hankelow first thing in the mornings, as above rather close to my car windscreen, buzzard did exactly the same on Saturday flying right across the windscreen.

Believe it or not this fuzzy blob is a kestrel trying to steal a vole off the barn owl. I've seen it try 4 or 5 times now but the barn owl's held on to its prey every time

I've just parked up at the office in Birchwood east of Warrington and the two Oystercatchers are flying around the buildings and car park making their wonderful noise, not the place you'd normally see them.

Love having a couple of days away with camera at one of my favourite spots Bempton Cliffs. Here is one of my favourite birds the Atlantic Puffin looking out to sea.

Speaking with my lad last night, he's had 5 hen harrier chick's fledge from 2 nests out of 4, chick's still around the nests at the moment. First time in 20 years they've had 2 successful nests, all that time him and some volunteers guard the nests have paid off. He did show me some pictures, but not allowed to share them.

First hummingbird sighting of the year a couple of days ago. One that flitted into our tree and one who examined the feeders then left. Seems very late this year but we have had nothing of our usual summer heat yet (only two ninety degree days so far, no complaints) Also had a juvenile lesser spotted in the front yard for a few. A first for me.

Had a sparrow hawk in my garden this week. Saw it once last year also (sure it was around the same time). Assume that it is after young ones.

Am I imagining this but always recall the lighter mornings with being woken by birds very early singing but it seems eerily quiet this year

I don’t have any photos as I don’t have the patience but at work we have a huge population of Seagulls (landgulls?)
Anyway yesterday they were going absolutely apeshit, one of the young was roaming around and clearly hadn’t learned to fly so the clan had decided that any human daring enough to run the gauntlet from one building to another was taking their life in their own hands. I was swooped on several times and one guy had his head pecked🤣
Happy to report that today the young un had achieved his flying licence but was very erratic hence loads of eye level flying from loads of these fuckers. Died down in the afternoon so hopefully they’re back to just making a racket all day!

Technically, there's no such thing as a seagull, you are probably seeing lesser black backed gulls (if it is dark on top of the wings), the next one a size up is a herring gull (grey on top of the wings) then it's the greater black backed gulls, they are the biggest gull and right mean bastards, they can swallow rabbits whole, they don't venture in land really. A smaller gull is a black headed gull, it has a black head, but only during the breeding season

I was sat on a bench in Princes street gardens in Edinburgh, eating an M&S Sandwich and a young gull was walking up and down in front of us taking our mind and vision away, then out of nowhere dad flew right over my head, hitting my head with its wings and taking the sandwich out of my hand on the fly past, the bastard.

Interesting how the “baby” was pretty much the same size as the others but with mottled brown markings and a pathetic “chirp”🤣 As you can see I know nothing about birds!

I stopped gardening on Sunday to look over the hedge opposite to find out what all the commotion was about. After years of watching the Buzzards being harassed by the Jackdaws one had finally got hold of a Jackdaw eventually being joined by a mate and they merrily flew off with a meal.

Best part of yesterday was watching a pair of Egrets fishing in the shallow part of the small estuary just north of Tywyn. We've also got a pair of swans who have been joined by a rogue jet black one. By all accounts they are only ever kept in captivity so looks like we've got an escapee from somewhere!.
