At first thought it was a low flying Buzzard with missing tail feathers. Now almost 100% it was a Red Kite, heading for the cut, first one seen in Stockton Brook.. Exciting.
Blue Tit fam about to fledge from one of the boxes. Chiff Chaff, Goldfinch, Dunnock, Long Tailed Tits {one of my faves}, a flycatcher {spotted} flitting/hunting over puddles one morning.. the more interesting garden spots.

Seen both Pied and Grey Wagtails locally, but this lad was different. On one of the first warmer mornings, steam rising over puddles, a small bird almost hovering amongst it.. He didn't hang around once I'd interrupted him. I'd love to have a proper view of a Pied Flycatcher, did go on a search in the back end of Horton for one that had been seen, a few Summers ago. To no avail.

Got a Song Thrush in the garden - taken a fancy to the top of a large fir tree. Starts singing at 4am and finishes at 10pm. So bloody loud - how can so much noise come out of something so small. Sounds lovely for an hour but that soon wears off 🥴

A good day working on the reserve with lots of happy visitors. 2 Cuckoo heard singing away. 2 fly overs of the Bittern am and pm. Some lucky visitors got treated to a Barn Owl flying around the play meadow opposite the car park at 10am. So clearly feeding young if out at that time. Took camera round on my morning site patrol. Banded demoiselle in the morning dew.

A mate of mine is more into landscape shots but regularly sells his pics to calendar companies etc. Not for huge sums of money but he puts it towards new equipment, holidays etc. No doubt it's all welcome. Your photos, I have to say, are better than his!

I've seen quite a few Barn Owls in flight whilst driving home off noons from work in Cheadle, and around the small nature reserve at the bottom end of Clayton where I live. One flew straight across the front of my car one night on Northwood Lane, proper shit me up

I believe they are more down the Whitegate area around us, there are a couple of expert dragonfly searchers and recorders in the local nature group I am in.

Two Red Kites around Mow Cop area this morning, lovely sight. Over the weekend the parent Tawny owls were kept busy chasing magpies and crows out of the wood where the two youngsters are roosting. Looks like the male Barn owl has stepped up his vole count to the box this past week or two so hopefully there's some youngsters in there.

Quite a few birders were at the flashes last night. From cheshire and staffs. I saw the Night Heron at 5ish thru my bins but it was too distant for a photo. Went home went back to be told it flew behind some willows around 6:15. It hasn't yet been relocated.
5 Black Tern flew over and around the flash tho.
See if someone picks up the Heron today. It may have gone who knows.

The male barn owl was out hunting until 9 o'clock this morning, it took five prey items back in 30 mins. Really wasn't expecting that. Attachment Deleted
