Shawcross and Shea reunited. “At Stoke, Shawcross played against Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville in four Premier League matches while Neville played for Everton FC. Shawcross also overlapped with new Inter Miami teammate Brek Shea from 2013 to 2014 with The Potters. The pair made five appearances together, three in the Premier League and two in the EFL Cup.” www.intermiamicf.com/en/post/2021/02/20/inter-miami-cf-signs-defender-ryan-shawcross

Ryan Shawcross is an anomaly. He’s always seemed a bit old school to me. And I mean that as the highest compliment.
Modest to the extreme. Hard as nails. Loyal to a fault.
He wouldn’t have looked out of place alongside Denis Smith. On the other hand, he’s as far removed from the likes of David Luiz as it’s possible to be.
And I know which one I’d rather have in my team.
It’s been a pleasure and a privilege Ryan. The best central defender of the modern era. Thanks for everything.

Not sure where I got the photo, but it’s my favourite of Ryan, no edge to the bloke, what a captain, he epitomises what Stoke are all about for me, certainly a legend of the club. Thank you Ryan, you deserve some sunshine after all the cold, wet, windy Tuesday nights at the Brit 😄

It's no surprise that Arsenal fans are talking about it on their forums, as if our behaviour is somehow alien to football. No, the affection we have for Ryan would have been commonplace years ago. Heck, as recently as the early 00s. Ultimately, the sterilisation of football has made this act of loyalty seem misunderstood by fans of clubs like Arsenal, but are you surprised? Their forums are full of fans who been supporting since the 'Invisibles' many of whom haven't even visited London let alone been to a match. They can call us orcs and inbred all they want but that moral high ground is somewhat lost when you find out BillyGunner86 is actually from Nottingham and that's before you get onto their huge following of Middle Eastern fans. As a club, we are one of those which has a dedicated and loyal following. The majority of our fans are local and go to the games therefore the connection with the players is tangible and very real. Those who aren't can never be questioned for their reasons behind supporting our club. No glory hunter supports Stoke. Our non-local fans often make extraordinary trips just to see us play because their relationship with our club wasn't formed on the back of some desperation to follow a successful club, it's usually deeper than that. It brings us together as one of the best in the world. As such, the outpouring of emotions we feel for Ryan Shawcross can never be understood by clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool. Whereas they see bodies coming and going, we saw a monumental part of our lives departing. They'll never have, what we have. Up The Potters

So incredibly difficult to add anything new here - but it's only now that I think many of us are truly beginning to appreciate the absolute golden period we have been through as a club with Ryan as Captain. Ryan and so many of those players from the promotion and early Prem years team are absolute heroes who will forever be looked at with huge affection, Ric, Rory, Lenny, Mama, Huthy, Walters and many more. However, the one I'll miss most of all is Ryan. Hope you have a great end to your playing career in the sun Sir!
Genuinely gutted that the big man has gone.

Having just read this thread as well as all the videos on Twitter I’ve had the pleasure of catching up with and I can tell folk I had a tear in the eye and a lump in the throat😢I was at his 1st game and the scenes when he scored were excellent and only beaten by the Simmo double penalty save at the end. The man is an absolute legend and it’s been a great pleasure to have him associated with our great club. All the best Ryan and you deserve all the plaudits that are coming your way

All players come and go.
Many players leave memories of a great goal or save or match.
Some players you can build a team around.
Precious few players can you build a club around.
Ryan, you are one of those.
Thanks for everything, Captain.
All the best for the future to you and your family.
Come back soon.

Thanks skipper, you epitomise everything I love about our wonderful club. I have coached my boy's football team from when they started through to under 18s. He has wanted no 17 every year and when he plays well I always say to him "a display Shawcross would have been proud of". All the best Captain Ryan

I absolutely loved this bit.... "Shawcross was and is a better footballer than ever given credit for. He deserved international recognition more extensive than a cameo against Sweden, during which Zlatan Ibrahimovic embarrassed the entire England team, not only Shawcross." I hope this would finally put the whole Shawcross/Ibrahimovic bollox to bed!!!

Ryan's debut will always, always be special to me. I would love to say I was there, but I wasn't. In the months before Ryan signed, my life had taken a down turn. I had been divorced and seriously ill. As someone who had been an avid Stoke fan, travelling up from down "Sarff", my attendance had suffered. My love and loyalty for my team was there, but I spiralled into depression. Luckily for me, I met a new "friend" who began to help build up my self-esteem but had no interest in football and no idea of my obsession for all things SCFC. My new friend came from Northern Ireland and as we grew closer, we agreed to go on holiday together so she could show me the Ireland that she and her family were so proud of. So off we went. I was positive this new person was good for me, but as my confidence grew, so did my desire to return to my spiritual sanctuary SCFC. So, we set off from the deep South, me knowing I would miss the start of the football season. We got to Northern Ireland, before going on to visit Donegal in the South. We drove from Londonderry to Ardara. I knew I fancied my new friend, but was desperate to find out how my team were doing on the first day of the season. My new friend decided she wanted to get an ice cream as we got to Ardara in rural Donegal. She got out of the car to go to the shop and I turned on the radio. In the arsehole of beyond in Southern Ireland a crackling, hissing radio told me Stoke's new loan signing, Ryan Shawcross had scored on his debut. As my new friend got in the car, I knew I was in love. Move on many years and my new friend has been my wife of 15 years and I am lucky enough to have 2 children that I adore. I would love to tell you that they are both called Ryan, but that would be a lie. What I will say is that Ryan's arrival at Stoke coincided with an upturn in my life. Ryan gave me a belief in my football team (alongside others) which coincided with my new friend/wife giving me a belief in myself. Ryan's debut will always be one of the happiest days of my life and my Avatar reflects that. My eldest son (13) said to me, "Ryan's going, he was one of the greats". Now he never saw Stan, Bluto, Dennis, Huddy, Jimmy, Steino etc, but maybe my boy got it right. Certainly for me. Thanks Ryan I owe you

Brilliant player, leader, best defender at Stoke in my lifetime.
It was me Ryan that got the BBC to take down an article some years ago that made an accusatory comment about the Ramsay tackle. Just want you to know that. Love you

as a non-english I can say Ryan is one of the main reasons why I started to follow Stoke. In my opinion he represents humility, hard work ethic, and fighting spirit that anyone can extrapolate to their private life. Thank you Ryan, you will be always a role model for me!
