The end of an Era. If ever one man epitomised Stoke's (first!) Premier League adventure it is Ryan. I wish him every success in the next phase of his career. Hopefully we will get to see him play one last time in front of 30,000 in the Brit/bet365 once covid restrictions allow it - maybe at the end of the MLS season next autumn? I have too many good memories of his time at Stoke to list them all, but seeing him captain us in the 5-0 drubbing of Bolton at Wembley and the 6-1 demolition of Liverpool in Gerrard's last game will be hard to forget. When he does hang up his boots I'd love to see him back at Stoke as a coach. I can't imagine anyone who would be more of an inspiration to our players young and not so young. Good Luck Ryan, Kath and the kids - keep your house in Cheshire - you'll be needing somewhere to live locally when you return to work at the club in a few year's time! And, finally - Thank you for Everything!

Only just seen the news. Don’t mind admitting I’ve got tears in my eyes. This feels like the final severance with our wonderful PL & European adventure. Best of luck, Skipper - I hope the Florida sunshine will ease the pain of the war wounds you carry putting your body on the line for Stoke. Our Captain, Leader, Legend...

Leader, legend, family man and most important a gentleman. Great charity work with the CT and privately too. Played through the pain so many times, always gave his all. We will probably not see that length of service at the club again. Good luck to Ryan and his family. He deserves his time in the sun. One day hopefully he will be back in another role.

Hit me like a tonne of bricks this and I didn't think it would, maybe because he's been there for every year of my adult life I don't know.. very sad. All the best skipper, you do deserve it.

The reason we follow this fuckin great club! Occasionally we get real warriors in our colours who will fight all the way against the very best opposition. Ryan Shawcross is in that group.
Farewell skipper.

I’m little bit teary to be honest.
The main man behind everything i’ve seen as a stoke fan from the promotion season to now. The hero behind everything I really cared about growing up. It feels like the end.
Ps. Now i’m a grown up full on crying about a player leaving stoke
