It's good to see so many Stokies appreciating what an incredible servant to the club Ryan has been. A player who deserved better national recognition of the incredible job he did which was also true of his legend predecessor Denis Smith. One of my favourite Ryan moments is one of my earliest memories of him, playing in a fairly poor game away at Rochdale in the cup, but the enormous grin on his face which he kept for the rest of the game after scoring his first goal for us. The best of luck on your new adventure and I hope the club does recognise we have to find a way in the future of bringing Ryan back to Stoke to give a proper thank you when conditions allow.

There are many types of players...those that cost a fortune in transfer fee and wages and do a job, those that cost a fortune and fail to produce anything other than bother, those that develop through the academies but vanish at the first hint of higher wages somewhere else there are more types of course. Then there’s Ryan Shawcross. The priceless player who's attitude and commitment endears him to the hearts of fans. Good luck Ryan and get that book written soon. We love you.

Grew up with Smith and when football was proper. Ryan Shawcross is about as close as we will get to that. Football is not what it was. That he continued to perform to the level he did and in the manner he did, when there was a concerted attempt by that shit football club and the media to destroy him says all you need to know about him.

Today marks the end of an era, the end of a very special era in the History of Stoke City Football club. Someone made the point that you know when a player or manager has achieved true legendary status when they are referred to by their first name ....Ryan, Ric, Denis, Tony....For me, a Stoke supporter since 1969/70 Ryan is up there with Denis Smith and that's some achievement. Sad day but also a wonderful opportunity for Ryan & his family and so much better than seeing him in another club's strip in this country. It feels very much like losing one of the family and it got me thinking about my life following Stoke City and the huge impact that certain chapters in that journey have on us. Certain departures that are almost too much to bare. Put in some kind of chronological order. Gordon Banks - As a 9/10 year old kid, he was my hero, he was god. The sale of Jimmy Greenhoff to Manure. Tony Waddington's resignation & relegation that year (1977) Denis Smith's final match for Stoke, beating WBA to stay up and send Leeds down. Lou Macari & Mark Stein both leaving the club on more or less the same day. Tony Pulis departure from the club 2013 All these days and occassions caused me to feel some kind of loss, a real sadness, a day where we can't hold back the tears and today is one of those days. Thank you for the last 14 years Ryan, for the blood, sweat & tears that you have willingly shed for our great club. A true LEGEND as a player, captain and person. There is and there will always only ever be ONE RYAN SHAWCROSS. All the very best to you & your family Skipper. We Are Stoke....You Are Stoke. Thanks for the memories. Look forward to you returning one day as Stoke City manager. A great post. Each of those occasions had a unique feeling of shock, or sadness. I can only add the sales of Matthews and Ritchie to the list. Many of those sad occasions had an inevitableness about them but that does not lessen the blow. Ryan like Denis and Jimmy was the heart and soul of our club and he will always be fondly remembered. He stood for us and battled for us, and lead our team through one of the most successful periods in its long history. We will always remember him.

Not many players get to Stoke City legend status but this man certainly does. Thank you for being a huge part of Stoke City history Ryan, it’s been an amazing journey.

I will never forget the Shawcross and Huth partnership, immense. If the heart of our football club can be summed up by something it's those two battling it out. Sad day but for the best.

Not much I can add to the tributes to an undoubted Stoke legend. He has been professional in everything he did even surrounding the pathetic Ramsey/Wenger character assassination. Great news he is heading for Miami. As a resident of Atlanta Georgia I will definitely go and give him a cheer when allowed of course.

Ryan Shawcross for me is the epitome of who and where we have been as a club over the last 15 years. A rag tag bunch that didn't do things the conventional way, but they dared to dream and achieved greatness. From a team and a club that had seen some dark days to doing the seemingly impossible of playing in the Premier league. A rock in the team that were written off before a ball was kicked. A Captain in our first ever FA cup final. A leader on a European adventure that saw us rubbing shoulders with European football elite in Valencia. A man and player that stuck with us when the dream came to an end and we almost went back to the depths that we were before his time. All of the players that came and went in his time will be remembered in their own way and some rightly forgotten.
He is now in a very small group of people that we consider Stoke City legends.
Thank you skip and good luck in Miami. I hope that we see you one more time in front of a Boothen end in full voice.
THERE'S ONLY ONE RYAN SHAWCROSS!!!

Ryan is a true legend for me, gave it everything and if his body hadn't given out once too often, he still would be doing. And a lovely bloke, a proper gent. Over the years he made some average CBs playing alongside him look better than they were. I still feel for him about that England debut, not only was he unlucky but if he'd had a manager who got what he was about, like Tone and Sparky who knew he's not an instant confidence player, it could have been a v different story.
My best Ryan memory tho goes way back, towards the end of the promotion season, galloping up the pitch as an emergency striker - whatever we needed, he was up for it and that is Ryan Shawcross all over.

Hero. Legend. Captain. Three words that describe Ryan Shawcross. The best central defender and captain I've ever seen for my club and probably ever will though Harry souttar may have something to say. What can I say Ryan from that day you banged in the winner at cardiff I watched you grow into a player who lead my club to the premier league and kept us there, a Fa cup finalist and into Europe, all places I could never have imagined watching my beloved club but as I sit here with a tear in both of my eyes I wish you the best captain because you gave me the best times watching you in the red and white with my old man and you will be forever in our hearts. All the best Ryan Shawcross a hero and a Stoke legend.

Just wanted to say thank you Ryan. Never thought it would hit me as it has, remember getting him in on loan and going who when he signed on loan as a fresh face kid and him making his debut at cardiff as I was on holiday in Orlando at the time. Then from your performances me and dad wanted you to sign permanently and it happened. That I will allways be greatful I will never forget the first season in the prem and that partnership with A D Faye and then after with HUTH.
Just thank you Ryan but to us you allways will be our Ryan. Good luck and enjoy it.

Officially an Inter Miami fan. At Stoke, Shawcross played against Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville in four Premier League matches while Neville played for Everton FC. Shawcross also overlapped with new Inter Miami teammate Brek Shea from 2013 to 2014 with The Potters. The pair made five appearances together, three in the Premier League and two in the EFL Cup.

Likewise, great post....Thanks for reminding me about Big John Ritchie (that one had slipped my mind)....I was brought up in Yorkshire and was staying in Stoke during summer holidays, was down the ground, loitering by the players entrance at The Vic when a Rover 3.5 Lit car roared down the road , not another soul to be seen anywhere, pulled up outside the players entrance and out got John Ritchie, left the engine running, opened the boot, went in the ground before reappearing a couple of minutes later with several pairs of boots & gear, threw it all in the boot......I was a young kid in complete awe of the man, the legend...It’s surreal when I look back....I just said hello, said thanks for everything as he gave me his autograph & then eerily watched him go.......I maybe didn’t appreciate it at the time but what a privilege in a strange way it was for me to witness such a scene.......
