Did the person say cousins was a decent championship holding midfielder Cousins - "Runs around a lot, likes a bit of a tackle, can't pass water. Don't play him higher up the pitch like we tried to." Fox - "hit and miss defensively, doesn't get forward much, when he does his end product is very iffy. There's a very good reason he's going on a free" I'm not saying the lad is always right, but the lad I know is a pretty sensible and sound judge of a footballer. Reckons Doughty would be better staying with them for another year post injury to get more experience before moving to the Championship. My thoughts on talking to him is we shouldn't expect too much of the lad and slate him if he doesn't hit the ground running. ie. keep the expectations grounded and let the lad settle. Not that accurate then sounds like a bit of negative bias as they left the club. Fox is not hit and miss, actually very solid for this level defensively and has assists to his name and Cousins makes us much more solid when he plays at CDM as he has good positional sense. On that basis and the fact the player looked really good in his 20 minute cameo against us at left back last season, pace, nice touch and good dribbling, I am optimistic

We've already seen from the Matondo thread that he is being wrote off already, after two games. There are a hell of a lot of touchy people about here just recently.

Sounds very risky this.
His injury sounds as bad as Etherington's - the only saving grace is that he's much younger

His injury sounds as bad as Etherington's - the only saving grace is that he's much younger Cheap though Yes there's a risk but if he proves a success we could make a lot of money down the line If it doesn't then hasn't cost much - £650k and low wages Risk worth taking We beat other clubs to his signature including the mighty Bournemouth si that's a good sign In the meantime we have Clarke, Matondo so no pressure on Doughty to play this season Wish we made more sensible signings like this

Massive risk signing this for 5/600k hahaha
Get a grip..... another young signing and the rebuild continues

I just hope the young lad stays off this board once he's fully fit.
The comments on the Matondo thread are frankly a fucking disgrace, standard Stoke fans writing off a young player after 2 games, both of which played in awful conditions

Massive risk signing this for 5/600k hahaha Get a grip..... another young signing and the rebuild continues I said back in June/July Alfie Doughty would be a player I'd sign. Good player and would fix the lack of pace void in the team. But it is a risk though isn't it? I'm surprised we've got 500-600k to be spend with FFP, let alone on a player that will be coming in as injured for a couple of months.

It’s better. At least he’s under our control and there’s no temptation to rush him back like there might have been at Charlton.

If we write off every player with an injury, we wouldn't sign anyone..

I wonder if we’ll loan Tom Edwards to Charlton as part of the deal? Might tie in with his recall.
Regardless, I’m pleased with this signing and the forward planning.

If we don't sign him now and he gets fit and starts playing well their will be a queue of clubs after him in the summer.

I think you're contact's assessments of Cousins and Fox were spot on - what the touchy brigade on here don't understand is that it doesn't mean they won't improve! The same goes for Matondo - tbf most of the comments I have seen are merely reviewing his last two performances which have not been great, only a select few have written him off. Looking forward to Doughty signing myself, love a player with pace!

I like the way our recruitment is going. It should be the blueprint for us moving forward. Me too, it’s just a shame it’s taken the powers that be and financial restraint to get there and in the meantime we’ve spunked money away on overpriced journeymen. I’m sure there are plenty of exceptions, but it’s always seemed to me that Stoke sign better value players when money is tight rather than when we have millions for managers to go mad on. Is the process, is it the mangers...who knows?

So your saying 500/600k is to much to waste, we have Wimmer, Bauer in the under 23s. We have Etebo, Ndaiye and Imbula out on loan and nobody wants to sign them. How much did they cost again? Would take a young lad coming back from injury for 600k who wants to play for the club over any of those bell ends!

So this lad could be the bargain of the century or worst case we have lost pennies

This idea that Cousins 'can't pass' appears to have got traction on this board and is now, apparently, repeated as unarguable fact. Yet when l've seen him play, this is not born out by what l'm seeing with my own eyes. He's played some pretty decent forward balls (quite apart from his usefulness as a CDM) and I'd even go as far to say that he's been our best midfild player this season (admittedly Allen has been out injured and Mikel and Clucas have been either out injured or pretty disappointing).

Cousins played a great ball down the right wing to Powell vs Rotherham. The idea to slam him for ‘not being able to pass’ would only make sense if any of the other central midfielders dominated teams with their passing ability.

When he first signed for us he was very sketchy with his positioning, but more recently he's been excellent. Whether thats down to him or MON or a mixture of both who knows? Players can be an absolute plum at one club and then star player at another (a la Sheron), it doesnt make past assessments wrong!

No-one is 'slamming' Cousins, I think he is a fine addition to the squad, but passing isn't his strongest asset regardless of the rest of the teams ability.
