He's injured and is being loaned back to Charlton so don't see why it's a priority to announce it. Or they’re still haggling? This one will run I think especially if we were hoping to fund it out of outgoing loans or something. I think this won't be decided until the last week one way or the other. Charlton will start to get very nervous about him going north of the border. As I see it it's all down to the player to choose, he's in the driving seat.

One thing is for sure here. If and when we sign Doughty, he's going to be a much older player than the one we originally targeted!

My Charlton contact informs me that this person is very in the know for all things Charlton related. "If Cawley says it's happening then it's pretty much happening"

"Let's hope his injury hasn't knackered his pace because that's all he's got to his game". The same person was spot on in his assessments of Cousins and Fox, so i'll be an interested 'onlooker' with this one.

Did the person say cousins was a decent championship holding midfielder Cousins - "Runs around a lot, likes a bit of a tackle, can't pass water. Don't play him higher up the pitch like we tried to." Fox - "hit and miss defensively, doesn't get forward much, when he does his end product is very iffy. There's a very good reason he's going on a free" I'm not saying the lad is always right, but the lad I know is a pretty sensible and sound judge of a footballer. Reckons Doughty would be better staying with them for another year post injury to get more experience before moving to the Championship. My thoughts on talking to him is we shouldn't expect too much of the lad and slate him if he doesn't hit the ground running. ie. keep the expectations grounded and let the lad settle.

And there was a very good reason he went on a free, he rejected a new contract and left on a Bosman......

When he first came I thought Fox was all over the place defensively but has improved quite a lot in quite a short distance under O'Neill. His early susceptibility to the ball over the top has virtually disappeared. Maybe that is down to the back 8 we've been playing though.

Cousins passing is no better or worse than any other of our midfield, he was I would imagine a pretty cheap bosman and for me has been decent value. Fox the same, what do people expect when we are strangled by FFP.

I suppose if the injury is going to take most of the rest of the season to heal then it makes sense to get our medical team and physios involved in the rehab. I wonder if we'll add him to the squad so he can play if he recovers by April?

But when he's played at left back we've clearly played a back 4 not a back 8, and we've won 5 drawn 3 and lost 2 of those games and conceded 8 goals and kept 7 clean sheets. But still your mate eh? And he's not my manager he's the manager of the club we all support........

Your mate seems quite the aficionado. He’s described 95% of every midfielder and left back in the championship.
