Just going back to the Bairstow dismissal, DRS is brilliant in cricket but to me it was blatantly obvious that both the bowler and umpire were going with caught behind and I think that was what Jonny was questioning as what he been given for because he knew he hadn't nicked it but as they run through everything they get a second bite at the cherry with the LBW.
I only raise the point because you have to appeal to the umpire for a decision and if you don't the umpire can't give them out, so to me if they are appealing for caught behind then that should be what they check.

I’ve no problem with the batsman being given out if he’s out regardless of whether the initial appeal is for lbw or catch. That Bairstow dismissal though was interesting for another reason because it seemed to me that the ball, after just flicking the pad, cleared the stumps by a distance. But ball tracker had it hitting the stumps. I wouldn’t have thought that slight impact on the pad would have produced such a big deviation. I think that is what upset Bairstow.

Worth reminding ourselves after that dismal batting display that an England win in this test would mean Australia qualifying for that test final at Lords in the summer.
Every cloud has a silver lining.

I’m beginning to think there is a case for changing the lbw laws - slow bowlers are having an absolute field day compared to pre video umpire days . (that’s not say England’s technique isn’t abysmal though)

Small world - thought i'd caught a glimpse of one of the neices on my wife's side in the stadium. Wife texted her and she's doing the Covid testing for the players as working out of a hospital in Bangalore at the moment.

Every cloud has a silver lining. All told, a fitting final would be India v New Zealand. England had a slim chance but it’s gone after a decent run. Australia should be nowhere near it that’s for sure!

Ball tracking is a big issue but I guess it’s better than not having it. Swings and roundabouts.

That’s a good morning for us. Now it’s time for Leach and Bess to come to the party.

Any chance of Bess actually landing the ball on a length?🤦🏻♂️

I'd rather Root bowl than Bess, it's shocking how many bad balls he bowls.

Brilliant morning with the ball though it only takes one partnership to doom us.

I reckon if we picked Stone instead of Bess we'd be well in with a shout of winning this match.

Well, this is fascinating stuff.
As a wee aside, is there any batsman in world cricket you’d like to see getting out for a duck more than Virat Kohli.

Better from Bess, if he can keep a bit of rhythm going we’re well on top of them here......

Dom Bess wouldn't look out of place in a Caverswall 2nd XI.

That's pissed me off, how hasn't the umpire given that out?.. umpires call my arse. That did look out... but Stokes dismissal of Rohit didn’t. Both, of course, were umpires call. I think the on field umpiring has generally been of a high standard (off field somewhat less so of course!).

Dom Bess wouldn't look out of place in a Caverswall 2nd XI. I feel for him. He knows he is bowling poorly. And he knows he is struggling to put it right. And he knows he is letting his team mates down. And that all of this is happening on a massive stage. That’s a heavy load to bear.

Think this one might be slipping away, anything over 100 lead and the fragility of our batting versus their spinners doesn't bode well.
Someone remind me, if India win the series 3-1, they reach the final. 2-2 and it's Australia? Is that right?

A case in point is the crowd today... there could be 60k watching. I think they are allowing 50% capacity. The place though is near enough empty. It looks like well under 10k. That’s pretty disappointing.

Just because you can have that capacity doesn't mean you have to. He's still a club player though, and the thought of him being anywhere near the touring squad to Aus isn't even worth thinking of.
