It actually sounds like a really boring idea too.
The Champions League is a way better format for instance.

I’ve said for years now,let them all go and let rest get on with proper football👍 They're not going as such are they? They would still play Domestic League and The Champions League would become this, a closed shop open just to greedy bastards. The rest of Football should tell them to fuck off if they sign up though

A 30-game season, within a 38-game season - without the inclusion of any cups etc...
Nah, it's one or the other.
Off you go.

Up to 18 teams, so that’s 34 games (assuming they play home and away) plus however many they choose to make the knockout phase too. Just to emphasise your point, it’s surely one or the other even if they don’t take part in the domestic cup competitions.

Amazing how the managers and owners of these clubs constantly bitch and whine about fixture congestion - yet are determined to create endless new competitions and go on ridiculously long preseason tours of the Far East.

Am surprised some teams haven't broken away permanently and no problem with them doing so although not the intention here it seems. Was talk of it years ago and think Everton were backing it which seemed a bit odd as not one you would immediately include
I think say an 18 team European League would work and whilst would hit domestic leagues financially would mean a more level playing field .

It is the lack of relegation (for the first 20? years) for the top teams that pisses me off. I've always thought this was the big advantage the rest of the world have over the American way of doing things - now it seems that the Americans have sold their system to the mega rich football clubs of Europe! Not surprising that many of them in England have American owners.

Can now see a huge reform in the Champions League format

If they go ahead with this, they must be excluded from domestic competitions. More opportunities for normal teams like us to win trophies.

Please let go them go on their way, and let those cities be represented in the Football League pyramid system by supporter's club like FC United of Manchester, AFC Liverpool etc starting from grassroots of football.

It is purely down to the greed of the owners ££££. The fans of Liverpool and Man Utd would not back this idea at all.

What people who say fuck them off don’t realise is without Liverpool and Manchester United the sponsorships of the football pyramid will virtually dry up meaning a huge knock on effect for everybody else
And they know it

It would be interesting to see what happens if a couple of sides dominate it and they don't have domestic football to fall back on. Are glory hunting bastards going be happy watching their chosen side finish mid-table regardless of how shiny the league is or would the just fuck off and watch whoever was winning the domestic league?
It's pretty crass too that the top level of football thinks now is the time to get even fucking greedier than they already are.

he key thing with this proposal is who won't be in it
Suddenly Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs & Man City will probably (or at least two if not all) fine themselves on the outside looking in.
repeat across Europe e.g Italy, Juventus would be guaranteed but you can't have all of Inter, Roma, Milan & Napoli in it

The most disappointing thing about it though is that it is FIFA backed according to the article. FIFA is meant to stand for the good of the game as a whole not to prostitute itself for the benefit of the super rich. It’s unacceptable to have the big clubs holding the rest of world football to ransom and to be used for their casual benefit. All FAs and especially the world FA need to be protecting the many not pampering the few. The root cause of the chasm between the super size clubs and everyone else and the reason this is even possible though is because of the millions of pathetic feckless parasite cunts who only support a team because of glamour or glory. It’s about time these enemies of the game started feeling a lot more heat than they do from the rest of us and have their superior condescending arses handed back to them every time they talk about the game that they are destroying. Maybe then they wouldn’t think it so cool to be a glory hunting piece of shit! BM

Maybe then they wouldn’t think it so cool to be a glory hunting piece of shit! BM I would only echo your sentiment, but how is that going to be achieved? My own feeling is that the game has been hijacked, the sort of people who were the main support base for football clubs (working class industrial urban fans) are now the minority. The clubs used to depend on these for revenue. Now they don't. The support bases are predominantly global and people with high amounts of disposable income. This a game changer. OK its never going to return to former, that's a bygone age, but where does it go from here realistically?
