He seemingly got injured after the goal not before it. It seems to have happened during the corner right on the stroke of half time. The Swansea commentators were alluding to it when he came out to smother the ball through Souttar was caught out on. Hard to tell if that was it. Not easy to make your own mind up when you can’t see the full game and rely solely on a cameraman. It could well be as you said, or that it was just getting worse throughout the half. If it was the passage of play when he came out to smother then that wouldn't surprise me either because he totally misjudged it hence it spilled out when it should have been an easy gather. That ball could have gone anywhere and he was lucky it fell into space rather than for a tap in into an empty net. Maybe he got his knee caught in the turf, hence the spillage. He's been very good in those situations to date and I was surprised he made a bit of a hash off what should have been a routine collection after the forward took such a heavy touch. If he did get injured in that passage of play and tried to continue, he'll have done himself more damage you would have thought.

Definitely seems to be this that caused the injury, just from the way he reacted (held his leg I think), then was limping a little straight afterwards. Think he bit a brave face on for the rest of the half, but must have been a sore one.

Him not doing so is, as you say, surprising. They also mentioned shortly after at a Grimes corner (Stoke left) that they were surprised he didn’t come to collect the catch, which would have been his six yard box. They alluded to his knee maybe playing a role in it. Really hope it’s only a knock!

I think it happened in the one v one after Souttar gave the ball away. He collided with Fox I think it was after making the save and you can see him moving very gingerly in the background in the highlights.

I'd say it was that challenge that did it. He went for a cross not long after and when the camera panned round on the replay, it showed him hobbling and rubbing his knee after landing.

He is then seen on camera rubbing and flexing his knee. The was a good 10 mins before the goal

It wasn’t a criticism about Butland, it rare on here that you can see past his poor form and see about what he does for the club (admittedly first hand). I completely agree with what you say, from MON interview sounds like a ?CL injury which could do him for the season, which would be so cruel. Let’s hope Gunn is up to it. Hope he doesn't have a bucket handle tear of the meniscus! That's what I have right now and I've not been able to straighten my leg for 4 weeks. Did it rather innocuously playing tennis but with a similar reaction to Davies when he hobbled straight after that late corner at end of 1st half. I've got my op on Friday and am looking at 6-9 months recovery! Life as a keeper is cruel. You are only ever going to be the villain in reality. Get well soon, hope it all goes well. And it's lovely to read that about Butland and your lad. I always thought Jack came over very well so it's nice to read that he's the same way when no one is watching.

It's bad news if Davies is out long term. Along with Soutar and Campbell he'd been one of the first names on my team sheet.

And people were baffled why we didn’t just sign a 40 something as backup stating it made no sense in signing Gunn
Well if it’s true about Davies thats their answer

It's a massive set back for both him and the team. He's been fantastic since coming into the team and given the defence greater confidence. I am not saying Gunn won't be good, but it's not ideal.

Gunn just needs time and support to get back up to speed as quickly as possible. Thankfully, time, patience and support is the Stoke fans' motto.

Our Player of the Season so far.
He's been able to bring confidence to an experienced defence too. Will Gunn be able to do the same?

Interesting to see which free agent is brought in as cover Lee Camp would be a decent shout on a deal 'til the end of the season. Done the rounds at Championship level, 36, played plenty of games for Birmingham last year.

Wonder if Orjan Nyland will be considered as a suitable bench warmer as he got paid off & released from Villa just before deadline day. Only 30yr old too.
Short term deal till next May could suit both him and us right now. Not a bad keeper but occasionally erratic, as demonstrated by his goal-line juggling when Sheff Utd scored the infamous goal where goal line technology hadnt been switched on!
Heurelho Gomes & Michel Vorm also free agents that maybe considered. Jed Steer from Villa be good on an emergency loan but think he's the reserve Villa keeper so may be settled on the bench in the Prem for now.

Been training with Sheff Wed. www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/lee-camp-monk-sheffield-wednesday-19107846Although I remember him playing against us either last season or the season before and thinking he looked very dodgy.
