Southgate thought that we were excellent and outstanding. What colour is the sky on the planet that he lives on?

Outstanding with 11 players, excellent with 10- I hope that Southgate is just refusing to publicly throw anyone under the bus, if so, fair enough. If he really thinks that is a true reflection of the game, then he’s totally lost the plot.

England will think they are uncrowned world champions having beaten Belgium, and Southgate may be losing authority by refusing to play the country's best player (shades of Hudson et al). Maguire faced with too much responsibility in a makeshift defence will get himself sent off. It could all come crashing down tonight. Denmark, with a number of current and recent past English based players in their team, to win. 0-1 in their favour by an Eriksen wonder free kick. Well done that man. Got any lottery numbers for the weekend?

He's in awful form off the back of a torrid summer break. Both his tackles were idiotic Sunday League defending. The sooner Southgate stops wanking off players from the top 6 and picks his sides on merit the better for England. Oh and pls just fuck Kyle Walker off. He is not at any level a centre half.

That's a bigger problem. He's proud of a team who broke a record of never having had 2 players sent off in one game in over 1000 internationals.

More chance of vaccinating the world by Christmas than Southgate going. Wenger is free get him in You get the feeling Southgate will be in the job for as long as he wants it. I’d get Pochettino in to replace him in a heartbeat. What, on Gods green earth, would have you think that Poch would want to soil his career, life, future and possible even after life, with that miserable display of crud we have seen today? As some will know, I have smoked some amazing stuff in the past, now as well, but in the past too and I never dreamed of that scenario. You have inspired me. Tomorrow I’m going to ask the wife if I can have Kate Beckinsale for Christmas

The reality, though, is that the players are mediocre and failures.

Well that was utter shite wasn't it? Shit team, shit ref and then they (Southgate and Kane) had the sheer, bare-faced audacity to come on TV afterwards and claim they did well. They fucking lost the game, to Denmark.
Now can somebody explain why the fuck we were playing in a fucking blue strip (especially as there is no fucking blue in the England flag) and not our home strip? And whilst I'm having a whinge, we can fuck that shitty white shirt and blue shorts strip off too, our strip should be red shirt, white shorts and red socks.

Seem to be some parallels between Stoke and England at the moment.
Naturally cautious manager, very questionable defence, more creative areas of the side straitjacketed in the name of protecting it.
When it works it's good (Wolves, Villa, Belgium). When it doesn't, it's soul-crushingly tedious.

Some good balls early on and Kane and Rashfy didn't attack the spaces to get to them.
Bloody hell.

Eddie Howe earmarked as the replacement (big if). I can’t stand him either but I think he’d be an improvement.

I predict that in the not too distant future this new "crop of exciting young players" will, as you suggest, flop under-perform. And we will be told, once again, that it's "a tournament too early" and that when the next one comes round, the squad will be ready. Why do I think it will happen like that? Because it pretty much always does. Very, very entertaining. Personally I can't wait.

I think we do have a crop of exciting young players. They're just all focused in one or two areas and there are huge deficiencies in some key ones.
Also not sure the manager is quite it tactically to get us anywhere near winning a tournament.

I can barely recall a time - pretty much since 1966 - where we haven't been told we have a crop of exciting young players.
In addition, virtually everything in this world is relative. It is quite possible to have a crop of exciting young players. But they are unlikely to achieve much if (for example) Germany/France/Spain/Netherlands/Brazil/Argentina/Italy/Portugal/Croatia/Belgium/Uruguay have exciting crops of young players that are better than England's.

Our most promising areas are the attacking positions. Kane, Sancho, Sterling, Grealish, Foden etc. Yet we're not playing a system to suit them at all. We're currently focusing our tactics around a strong defence where the most creative players are the wingbacks. If Southgate is too stubborn to change the formation we might as well bring Andy Carroll back and lump it up to him rather than Rashford.

Which just happens to be Denmark's colours too. So both teams were forced to play in their second strip. Not sure which rule dictates that...

Brazil originally wore white shirts and black shorts until they held a nationwide competition to design a new kit.

Because it pretty much always does. Very, very entertaining. Personally I can't wait. After one of the more recent failures, a few years ago (I think it was the defeat by Iceland), there seemed to be a bit of realism coming into the English way of understanding themselves. like realising that other nations were well ahead of them. The bizarre path to the World Cup semis probably ended that sense of realism. I won't comment on what Brexit has done for that English way of thinking, but winning every youth tournament in sight one heady summer probably made those kids think it was just a matter of time before they'd rule football. But that rather limited specimen of success seems to have gone to their heads too soon. Their extremely poor discipline on and off the pitch suggests they have already peaked in their own minds. They have time to prove that wrong though.

I don't think the attitude of the players is the problem - they get into the kind of scrapes that a lot (most?) young men get into at some point but I don't think it's a situation like the fabled 'golden generation', where they thought they just had to turn up and weren't half as good as they thought they were.
This bunch do seem to care.

Losing is shyte. Especially when you're the architect of your own downfall. But some of the responses here are a bit melodramatic.
