Maccies it is then. They do table service now. Who's paying? Festive menu too. Big mac Chicken and galaxy caramel pie. 😋 I did have to check they hadn’t introduced Turkey onto the menu to rubber stamp the occasion. Horrible stuff

How is everybody this week? Got a rare weekend out tomorrow to Manchester to “celebrate” one year with the Mrs. Got a table booked at a nice restaurant and a list of boozers kindly donated by a couple of posters on here to go at. Not had the best week at work and had a bit of a set to with the boss but all ended on a positive note. Even at work if you just speak about what’s troubling you a whole weight can be lifted so it’s not just friends that can lift your spirits. Get everything out in the open people Just got back from a brief four night stay in Tenerife to celebrate our 6 year wedding anniversary (been together 14 years but it took a while to get her up the aisle wahey). It was brilliant, very much missing the hot weather and cool pool now though. Small world though. Sat by the pool I was asked if we were from Stoke by a lady who recognised our accents who was born in NUL. I didn’t expect to be talking about Oatcakes in Tenerife! And the very nice TUI lady who helped me onto the plane on the way home lives in Werrington. Have a brilliant time in Manchester badger, my favourite city so far. Though really you should be at the game tomorrow, priorities…

Closely followed by The Britons Protection and then the Sir Ralph Abercromby. All within about 3 mins walking distance of each other. Real old mens boozers full of character👍 I walk fast before someone pulls me up on the 3 mins 😆

My current employer's office is about 200yds from said hostelry, hence the reason I spend most lunchtimes in there 😅

But once a month or so I'll get on the bus or tram and pop into the Pev for a couple of scoops. A beautiful building. You'll also know my 3 mins is bollox. Alright 5 mins tops 😆

As you say, it's an exceptional 'old man's pub'. (I type this whilst sat in The Congress in Longton - another cracking 'old man's pub')

Not been in that since my younger days.

The only thing better than an old man's pub is lone drinking in an old man's pub.
It's the unsung equivalent of meditation in my opinion.

I've not been in it for a while - the last time I frequented this particular place was after we'd got bummed 3-0 away at Man City on New Year's Day about 10 years ago - but to all intents and purposes it still looks to be open.

Anyway I digress…

Peveril, Britons Protection, Crown and Kettle, Castle Hotel, Tibb St Tavern, Affleck and Brown, Cane and Grain, Foundry Project and another little place who’s name escaped me after that many pubs. Finished off with a lovely meal at Pupa and the dreaded last train back which was full of vale fans singing Robbie Williams songs for the entire journey. And of course the obligatory nightcap in The Glebe. Good day made even better by missing what sounded like an awful game yesterday.

And thankfully Gary Neville has changed his city centre plans to keep the Sir Ralph Abercromby rather than demolish it. That would have been a shame really.
