I would give credit to McClean for the move for the goal too. It was a great move. Bayern? Credit McClean? No chance in hell🤣 Yep, you've got a good point there. It was great play though and McClean really initiated it

I would give credit to McClean for the move for the goal too. It was a great move. It was a good move but he wasn’t why we changed in the second half imo. It came from the back 3 playing it out and keeping it better. And Fletcher holding it up better. The move for the goal was excellent and not taking anything away from that 👍 I thought it made a difference that McClean was pushing further forward in the second, and the fact that they didn't seem to like it down that side. But I agree with the back 3 and Fletcher. Fletcher basically pulled his markers around and helped create more space for us down the right and left sides and gave players like McClean something to work as did brown with his pace and movement. Chalk and Cheese with the 2 sets of forwards

I know you won't change your view about being a meaningless game. But gauging the reaction on here and some stellar performances from the kiddies it was far from meaningless. Better off losing LMFAO Definitely meaningless in the grand scheme of things. It shouldn’t need this game to show us the young players are the way forward Would it be meaningless if we won the cup and made it to the Europa ?

Chalk and Cheese with the 2 sets of forwards I still don’t think he did much bar the goal though. But that was excellent. Indeed the game showed why Tymon the better option of the two imo. All the good balls came from Tymon. As you say Fletcher created the space and allowed us to keep the ball so much better.

It shouldn’t need this game to show us the young players are the way forward This game is never meaningless to those that live in mid or south staffs or west Shropshire. For those this is the one true derby game. If you live in Burslem and lost to Vale would that be meaningless? I had a dozen messages telling me to get ready for a dicking and I’ve really enjoyed tonight. Granted in the global scheme of our return to the top flight it’s irrelevant but football is (and should) always be tribal. And when my tribe wins against massive odds against another tribe of local shitwipes I’m all ficken over it regardless.

Didnt watch the game but followed it on here...… top top result ! TO those that watched a very simple question - what was the catalyst for tonights win? Us scoring one more goal than them.

The best aspect of tonight is the performance of the kids. Marvellous to see.

I absolute detest those b******s with every fibre of my body, going back to the 90s when Central TV on a Sunday used to fawn over them on a weekly basis, and in recent times living in South Stafford surrounded by the deluded tossers. Hate them, absolutely hate them.

What a tremendous result. Wolves have a very good squad and while a few regulars were missing tonight, it was still a very strong side named.
The only teams which managed to beat wolves at mollineux last season were Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. So this is no small feat.

Sadly that's not the case Winners go into the new Europa conference competition which is essentially third tier Euro competition

Definitely meaningless in the grand scheme of things Would it be meaningless if we won the cup and made it to the Europa ? Dunno about "meaningless" but it would certainly be a surprise:
From next season the EFL winners go into the new third tier competition being created (above).
EDIT: lordb beat me to it.

For our goal, how many of our strikers would've just trapped that and slowed the entire move down?
Fingers crossed Fletcher can stay fit!!

I didn’t answer the original post because I think it’s daft but if what you’ve said is true (and I don’t believe for one second it isn’t) then it makes it even more pointless.

Yikes - very strong side from Wolves. At least we had a nice little run of clean sheets - more of matter of how many Wolves will score tonight than whether they will. Hopefully we can keep it from turning into a rout - a pasting here is not the kind of mood we need to be setting at the beginning of the season On the strength of your comment, I had a £5 on Wolves to win at 17/2 (Paddy Power) with a -2 goals handicap. Not having a dig. Wolves, as you said, fielded a strong side. What with my wagers on own team, it's been a bad start to my football betting season.

Steady for me. Wasn’t in the game in the first half like the rest of the midfield but then in the second when we got more of a foothold he did well. Passed it around nicely and was never bullied.

The one season in the last 45 that we had playing competitive games all over Europe and beyond (in Israel) was one of the highlights of my Stoke supporting life and we visited some truly fantastic and incredible places. I would love to do it all again whether that be a first, second, third or even tenth tier competition. We had as much fun in Tel Aviv and Thun as we did in Valencia, Kiev and Istanbul. The whole experience for a fan of a club of our standing where we rarely qualify for European competitions was brilliant. Bring on the Europa Conference! BM
