All this data analysis seems to be the way forward but just to counter it with an alternative view, let’s not forget that Jacob Brown was a data driven signing based on his performances for Barnsley which were very similar to that of Lowe last season at Wigan. The other factor is crucial. We can have all the data in the world but a computer will never be able to analyse what goes on in a players head. Confidence and mental toughness does not appear on a heat map, or a running chart but it’s so crucial in a players performance. Is there a method that can though? Only through watching them and talking to them I suppose

Is there a method that can though? Only through watching them and talking to them I suppose I think with the data analysis though you do watch them and talk to them as well? I don’t think people just look at the numbers and sign them, for the most part? It’s also not foolproof, even then. Numerous players can look like world beaters when they’re scouted or at one club but just don’t make an impression for a number of reasons at another. I think the data stuff at least helps show consistency and strengths, and whether a player might be the right fit for how you want to play. MON has stressed how much he values character in signing players.

The biggest hole in current data driven recruitment is how players are likely to transfer from their previous club system to your current one.
Every chance created likely has a couple of players who helped make the chance happen by running around, but without actually touching the ball.
So does your new player need space creators to function fully, if so who is it in his new team. If there isn't one, where are you going to get such a player from or why are you even buying your potential new acquisition in the first place.
