To be fair to hyaduck, most of these goals came off his arse. Way better with his head than people gave him credit for. Who doesn’t give him credit for it? He was amazing in the air and we barely fucking crossed it for him 😂

Similarly some in this thread aswell oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/295475/diouf?page=1Plus plenty of people at the time when he was in the team, both on here and around me in the stadium. Regularly groaning and slating him. But then I suppose you could say that about pretty much any of our players through history to be fair 🙂

You could see that it was one of the strongest parts of his game, but I suppose when fans make their minds up about a player being a ‘donkey’ or whatever, then no matter what they do on the pitch they can’t praise them because they’ve already made their minds up. Unconscious bias and all that. Even when he did well and scored some good goals, you’d get idiots saying “yeah he should do that every week, it’s the bare minimum”.

Agreed.. a criminally underused legend in his last 2 or 3 seasons. A similar conundrum to leaving Bojan out in the cold at the end of his time here. Football managers can be blinkered, stubborn bastards.. which funnily enough isn't always a bad thing. But in those particular cases it was extremely stupid, in my opinion.

Other than Campbell better than any other striker we have or have had in the last 4 seasons. Would still score regularly in the Championship especially with our wing backs getting crosses in. Assume he was paid too much, otherwise nor Eason to explain why he didn't play more after relegation

Sat here absolutely beaming after watching that. A model professional who will give absolutely everything for his team. Delighted that he's getting the love and appreciation in the latter stages of his career. Well done Mame!

Apart from the last pen he went the right way for the rest and was unlucky not to save one.
The reaction of the players after they had taken their pen and at the end shows you what a well liked and respected bloke he is.

One of my favourite Stoke players for these reasons: 1. All heart and effort for the team not himself as epitomised by the match v Chelsea I think it was when he gave everything at right back despite having been out injured. 2. That goal v Man City scored right in front of Stoke fans. 3.But most of all for that smile! Even if things were really bad seeing his grin made me smile too. Just like in that video. Played the game with enthusiasm and enjoyment just like a big kid. Happy memories brought back by that video thank you.

Just got on with it and gave his all. Top pro.

Great striker who was technically limited but always was in the right place. The comments earlier in this thread how ‘most went in off his arse’ etc shows the intelligence of some on here to make it seem like that’s a bad thing.
He consistently scored goals everywhere he has been, and yes, most probably headers and ‘off his arse’ - but you’ve got to ask yourself why it keeps happening. The guy had a knack for goals.
Criminally underused here. Like someone mentioned earlier with our wing play this season he would score a hat full.

Dead chuffed for Mame. I never had a problem with the lad because he never gave less than 100% for the club and fans, and I wish he was still here to help us through our current situation.
OS..

Decent right back and goalkeeper - what’s he like as a defensive midfielder?

Maybe we were playing him out of position all that time …🤔. To be honest not the worst goal scorer we’ve had or the best…but a top bloke who gave 100% on the pitch, which is all we want from players , IMO.

I bet after seeing his Stoke career out with the odd cameo appearance for the U23's he could well have been forgiven for thinking his career was ending right there then with no more joyous & memorable match day moments to come his way. For this reason alone as others have eluded to, despite all the issues going on in his personal life at the time, for SCFC he always gave his best and seemed a model professional despite not getting a look in for much of his latter months with us.
The memories others have already evidenced are fine reminders of his contribution to Stoke City. For me though, my highlight has to be his goals and performance in the 6-1 Liverpool victory, he was class that game.

The reaction of the players after they had taken their pen and at the end shows you what a well liked and respected bloke he is. I don't know if it was a fluke, but it was ridiculous he kept going the right way and got close to many of the shots. His technique understandably looked strange (it reminded me of Chilavert for some reason, who sometimes made great but uncomfortable looking saves), but I wonder if being a striker could help when it comes to knowing where to dive for penalties?

I really wish we had another dreadful player scoring 13 goals in one season at the top level for us!

If ever a thread proved the stupidity of forcing all threads under one title then this is it How many would miss this penalty shoot-out because the thread title doesn't refer to the content !!
