Agree, he can certainly challenge Clucas role as well.

McClean was really good tonight.
Some decent crosses, gave the side the energy we were lacking on Sunday, kept possession well, moved the ball around well, pulled their defenders around.
Excellent contribution.

Thought he and Smith were easily the worst players tonight. Strange game football, I thought Smith played quite well, good overlapping, some of the crosses were iffy, some timely defensive interceptions. I thought Tashan could’ve made more of his chance.

I thought McClean played well. Most attacks went down the left and he really made a nuisance of himself. The ones that went through McLean didn't go anywhere and I doubt if he completed a pass. The threat down the left was through Tymon who ran Jordan Thompson, Souttar and Collins close for mom. Don't know who I'd give it to. Certainly not to any of the senior pros.

I agree with your comments on the young players, and think Tymon was excellent. I commented to my wife that the young players were generally better than the older players. My remark was in response to your comment " Thought he and Smith were easily the worst players tonight." I was also disappointed with Smith and thought we had little penetration down the right. On the left we were much better and that I attribute to McClean creating the space and options for Tymon to exploit. McClean puts in a lot of work off the ball drawing defenders. As usual McClean was not very productive, but he puts in such a huge amount of work and effort that even his low productivity in terms of end product is more than a lot of players. It is not just by chance he was out top player for assists (7) last season, something we are desperately short of so far this season.

We are nearly always a better team with him in it (except of course when he's played out of position as he was in the dark days of Jones) I thought him and Tymon worked well together.

Thought he did ok last night - and we definitely benefit from having someone with attacking intent playing there - but wonder whether he did enough to catapult himself into the starting league XI for the Preston game?
Looking at the balance of any bench, that would probably involve leaving Fox out of the 18?

I'm still convinced Fox will end up in the back 3 but I am basing that on us somehow shifting BMI which does look unlikely.

I'm still convinced Fox will end up in the back 3 but I am basing that on us somehow shifting BMI which does look unlikely. He could do - but hard to imagine he was bought with that in mind. He's got the build for it - but pretty sure he's only played 2 90 minutes there in his career before he signed. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-transfer-morgan-fox-4429180Looking at the MON quotes, he definitely seemed to picture him as a Steady Eddie left-back in a 4 - with admittedly a few extra versatile strings to his bow. Like you say, though, while BMI is here, he'll be starting. So with Souttar and Collins knocking hard and Tymon offering a bit of versatility (although I think he looks way more promising in midfield than he does at LWB where he doesn't convince defensively), hard to see Fox in the 18 if he doesn't start.

Maybe Smith, as captain, felt he should be nearer to Collins and Souttar Last week Bruno did an excellent job of supporting them

A free mid week.
Sent off for ROI 2 quick yellow cards. Unlucky really an accidental stud caught an achillies for the 1st booking. Then he is fouled and races forward as foul not called and just clips Wales player then ref blows give ROI the free kick for the foul on McClean and gives hima 2nd yellow. Poor referring really.

What’s with the South African rugby kit Ireland are wearing? Very odd shade of green for an Irish side.

Have you actually seen the incidents? My description are from the slow motion replays and slightly over egged as at normal speed neither look a booking. Neither incident was aggressive behaviour.

Going from that description it wasn't the ref he raced towards was it? He made a second challenge which resulted in the yellow, if the ref blows up in a timely manner he probably doesn't make the challange, I could be wrong mind.

The second booking was ridiculous. I don't think he actually made any contact and it wasn't even dangerous The dive should be punished, it's a disgrace really. Terrible refereeing that.

Thought he was brilliant today. He has his limitations but his energy and drive improve us. I think he's found his role in the team after today.
