We need more than that. Mikel should be doing that job whilst offering us more in an attacking sense with his superior range of passing. Mikel has shown he can’t be the DM for us. Yes I know. Strange though because it’s a role he’s performed throughout his career and was probably what he was signed to do here.

Indeed but those past glories are irrelevant. Looking forward he is one of the 3 that has to be considered to play alongside Cousins. Cousins is absolutely key to this side and the balance of it.

I don’t disagree but it’s reflects poorly on the other midfielders and it’s not helping with our issues in the final third one bit.

I don’t see how someone who’s played at the highest level for some of the worlds biggest clubs can just forget how to play his position in the championship. The better bet is for Mikel to rediscover his positional awareness and have him and Clucas alongside Powell. That way, we keep the ball better, the passing is more incisive, and we get more bodies forward to help us score more goals. It was positional awareness though. It was letting runners go off him. I think it was down to his legs and tiredness. So it can be alleviated but Cousins has done that job so much better and under the same game regime. Cousins cannot be dropped. Clucas would be lucky to get back in this side in midfield based on this season.

Clucas scores some goals (or did last year when fit). Thompson - no. Tymon - no. Allen - not usually. Mikel - one thus far (maybe more?). We haven’t looked worse going forward because of Cousins. We’ve looked worse going forward because we relied on one player to score/assist and at about the same time Cousins came in, he was ruled out for the season.

Looks like he's learnt from Mikel/Mikel has had words He's using his body much better nowadays Him, Souttar and Bursik were our better players today Mikel has shown no ability to defend for us. What exactly has he learned? Cousins was very good in the resumption and shouldn’t have been dropped this season. Let’s not say it’s because of Mikel ffs 😂🤦♂️ Honestly, please stop droning on and replying to every single person on the thread/board. People can choose between believing your first or 276th comment about your Cousins/Mikel agenda, or believe the stats Which say Mikel (who has 'no ability to defend for us') has: More tackles per game More interceptions per game More clearances per game More blocks per game And for good measure More dribbles per game And an assist *end of debate* 😂

Since when? I want him in the team but not as the sole DM. That may be but is there a stat for switching off and letting a man run and not tracking him stat? That’s where he was costing us. Stats won’t show that and are limited in showing that. It was clear Mikel needed resting as he was letting the side defensively. Passing wise he’s been excellent and he will tackle and read the game to be in alongside someone. But as the last shield ahead of the defence? He wasn’t doing his job. Cousins was showing this form in lockdown. Was that down to Mikel as well? That’s why I find it laughable nonsense.

I really don't get this 'love in' for Cousins....he's played ok in a side packed with defensive players, but in general he's a limited player that really belongs in the 1st / 2nd division. We definitely need better if we are serious about the top 6.

It won't hurt you to accept that a player you previously thought was shit is actually playing very well indeed. Even Bayern does it occasionally. Cousins is ace. Get on board. It gives you a nice warm feeling inside.

Cousins has been surprisingly good recently. He has not let anyone down. He has done everything the manager has asked of him.
Personally, I think we will have a better chance of promotion if we can get JOM fit.

I'll give him one more game to prove me wrong...if he doesn't score a hat trick and make at least one goal line clearance then we should all accept that my assessment is correct, and that he a player with limited ability. PS under no circumstances should you ever respond to me and mention Bayern in the same conversation, even at Christmas

They just have to put good performances in or a good argument needs to be made. Cousins replaced Allen in lockdown but people didn’t want to see it.
