Did people not watch Mikel for us? His best work was in the final third or getting the ball there.

Cousins is close to undroppable as things stand.

Another great buy by Nathan. Are you serious or are you joking? It must be a joke. But I have thought that Cousins is now performing like a player perfect for the base of a diamond. Over a year too late for Nath's failed faith experiment, but at least noteworthy.

Cousins had a very good first half and I've not really been a fan. He could play with Mikel and Allen/Clucas in a midfield three as I think the best bet for us post-Campbell is to play Powell much closer to Fletcher with one winger permed from Ince, Verlinden or McClean.

Collins is clever enough to play in midfield. cool, a good passer & can tackle.

Collins is clever enough to play in midfield. cool, a good passer & can tackle. No, no and thrice no. He's a centre back with poise and skill, as is Souttar. How fantastic to have two such good footballers in our defence. Collins would be wasted in midfield.

I think, in Collins case, that those remarking about him playing there are doing so through sheer confidence in the lad. He's going to be a sensational CB and the quicker we can get him back there the better even though he's doing a Sterling job at RB currently.

I thought he has looked more accomplished the more games he has played, which would make sense as he hasn't played much competitive football for quite a while. I agree that if Mikel has to come back into the team, it should be playing further forward.

Moving Mikel further forward? You mean having just the one specialist defensive centre mid (Cousins) in a 4141? Allowing Powell, Allen, Mikel and Clucas to rotate as the more advanced central midfielders? Might work. One thing's for certain - we'll not be sticking to the same eleven starters over the course of the season.

You knew I was asking 'crowns' about his pro Nathan Jones statement all along.

Mikel should be fit for Saturday apparently.
Absolutely has to play alongside Cousins, not at the expense of !

I feel a bit sorry for Cousins - he was playing well at the end of last season and had not the option of Mikel appeared from nowhere I think he'd have been a first team regular this season. If we continue with 4231 (and I really don't like lone striker formations) then it has to be Mikel and Cousins as the sitting midfielders for me. However I'm not so sure about the 2 of them in a 352 or 433.

He's done great since coming into the team and he did great at end of last season as well. I like him.

What a pity he couldn't pass urine. Gouranga. Those who champion 'one good game in six' Nick Powell better stay well clear of his pass completion stats if you're worried about Cousins' passing ability. Takes all types to make a team.

Interesting to see if he or Tymon partner Mikel (if he does start)
Probably odds favouring Cousins. MON seemed to pretty much confirm it yesterday: "I don't think John coming back means Jordan can't be part of the midfield as well. His assets are very good - winning the ball back, particularly in the opposition half"

I would be happy if Mikel, Tymon and cousins were the midfield 3, maybe time to give Powell a rest?.

Today we need Cousins alongside JOM in midfield. Yes I think that gives us our most solid and balanced midfield and Mikkel had been at his best moving forward for us, playing through the lines. Any midfield we put out now needs Cousins at the base screening that defence

Right now Cousins would be in my starting 11 even if all our players had been fit! I actually think he is improving all the time and is now without a shadow of a doubt our best defensive midfielder. I also think his passing of the ball has improved a lot since last season. Maybe this is turning out to be Jones' best signing along with Davies! He is also at a very good age which is another plus of course! Our best team when everybody is 100% fit: .........................Davies or Bursik............................ (Both very good goalkeepers, hard to choose now!) Collins........Shawcross..................Souttar..............Fox .....................Cousins.........Mikel.......................... Campbell......................Powell..........................McClean (Could Powell be an option on top instead of Fletcher?) ...........................Fletcher.................................. Subs from: Davies or Bursik, Batth, Chester, Smith, Allen (I'd like to see him in the team, but...), Clucas, Thompson, TOB, Tymon, Ince, Gregory, Vokes, Brown. Out: Lindsay Vokes Chester Brown (I really struggle to see enough quality in this player!) If we got a good price for Clucas (£5M+) I'd be tempted to sell him too!
