I’m not talking about stopping cars that look suspicious etc though John. I’m talking about radar traps, fining people for breaking lockdown and so on. I’m sorry but whichever way you look at it, that is simply not as important as other forms of crime. It’s a waste of precious resources. Whilst it’s all very well and good to postulate what you or I might do if we were the parents of black children, the simple fact of the matter is that we’re not. Neither of us can possibly know what it is to be black. I wouldn’t presume to know what that lived experience is like. I find this wording of your post slightly concerning: “In the vast majority of cases if the Police are treated ok, the person stopped is treated ok” I would hope that if the police are treated okay, the person stopped is always treated okay All that said, I think we’re fundamentally agreed that there should be more bobbies on the beat. That would certainly help combat violent crime I think. Ok, we do disagree, slightly. When I joined it was made clear that I was signing up to " protect life and property " There are many deaths and injuries caused by traffic/ cars/ speeding...it has to be policed . If not , it would be worse. As regarding parents of black children, I'm nether postulating nor presuming. I'm offering an opinion. And I have discussed it with some black people. Horror, horror , rather than always being devisive I think it is possible to show empathy as parents ( as a category), not simply black or white. There's no need always to emphasise the undoubted black experience of racism , personally as a parent I think the safety of my children is paramount. I offered the same advice to my teenage son , driving a modified, wrapped , lowered, , tinted,VW if stopped by the Police and he gets it. I don't want to debate the whole stop and search/ police bias / black victimisation again....done it many times and I've come to the same conclusion. Of course, your prerogative to differ. I'd hope the same re your last point re being treated fairly, but in the real world people might have cause to believe that they have been treated unjustly by those in authority, no matter how well they have acted , police, teachers, parents, bosses...Police are only human and there may be one or two for whom the power has gone to their head. I guess my point about imagining what I’d say to my child if I were black (which I probably would be if my child was black) is that it’s unimaginable to me really. If I had been born black and grown up in the 70’s/80’s then statistically I’d have almost certainly lived a very different life and have a very different outlook. There’s an incredibly high chance I wouldn’t have had the education or job prospects that I have had, and also a pretty good chance I’d have had some sort of negative experience interacting with police. I would suggest on your part that if you’d been born black, you’d have been substantially less likely to be able to join the police at the time you did. And perhaps you therefore wouldn’t be such an advocate of your children helping them. Thankfully the situation is better these days I think, but still a lot of work to be done clearly

It does. I am aware that there are many reports and evidence that points out a racial bias in stop and search. Personally I am simply giving my opinion on it , which may indeed differ from those findings I am more in agreement with the extract from the Spectator below and the Met's own view, which acknowledges that stop and search should be conducted FAIRLY.....hard to disagree with that, but also claims support from a majority in targeted areas. Of course there are different views, but I'm happy with my current one. I don't feel the need to be persuaded otherwise....and can live with being thought wrong. ................... "I nevertheless felt that it was important that this truth be reflected in any parliamentary statement made by the home secretary. Bravo. A brilliant post and bang on the money. It all comes back to us being individuals and that’s how we should be treated. Morals go out the window it seems when colour black or white is involved. It should be about what’s right and what isn’t regardless of colour, religion, gender. You just can’t bracket everyone as being the same. This can often be the case with the Police and certainly after George Floyd where they’re all now depicted as racist thugs, which simply isn’t true: These interpretations are fuelled by the media and the likes of twitter too.

Neither of these have anything to do with the way the figures are represented tho.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-54739862RIP. Things need to change and immediately before London becomes a no go area. The sad thing is other than a sec60 being bought in when it’s too late nothing changes. They could start by a minimum sentence of 5 years with no exceptions for anyone found carrying any weapon. Drastic action needs taking. It might upset a few do Gooders that have never been affected by it or lived in an area where you don’t feel safe going out but we need to start protecting those not involved in gangs and crime.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-54739862RIP. Things need to change and immediately before London becomes a no go area. The sad thing is other than a sec60 being bought in when it’s too late nothing changes. They could start by a minimum sentence of 5 years with no exceptions for anyone found carrying any weapon. Drastic action needs taking. It might upset a few do Gooders that have never been affected by it or lived in an area where you don’t feel safe going out but we need to start protecting those not involved in gangs and crime. there's a video of this, policeman giving CPR to him outside a supermarket, inside a woman is busy loading her trolley with a very young girl stood at the window watching, all as if it's a normal thing Just another day in the cess pit called London.

According to some on here it’s all Boris Johnson’s fault. The mayor isn’t accountable.

Sad fact is, people often act like pricks and don't treat each other right. Drugs & Religion are obviously huge contributors. But until that changes, there is no solution. Humans have been unable to legislate morality and can only enforce it reactively. But we try... We control the military weapons, they make their own explosives. Take the explosives, they start using guns, take the guns, they start using knives. Take the knives, they start using clubs, take the clubs, it's the infamous Milwall Brick, take the bricks - crap! What the hell just happened? Now nobody can build a house... Next follows an endless list of things humans utilize to harm each other...
Eventually you're down to taking the hands, then the heads (They'll bite)... then you need protection from your own Government. One day the public might eventually realize...."Gee I gotta quit acting like a prick!" (From the files of Captain Obvious)
