I can tolerate people. If i ever see people choosing to drink Carling i often think. What in gods name is fucking wrong with you. I cant help thinking it everytime i see it. I have those 4 drinks that to me i could picture a typical chav (god not used that word in while) drinking. They also taste generic and terrible. Step Forward. Carling the worst of the lot. Fosters not much better. Strongbow Ciders Carling. Strongbow Dark Fruits. Anyone who actually chooses to drink these when out. Should stick to the bench in the town centre where they came from. No thanks. Sean Lock does an amusing bit about Fosters culminating in the line "it's a good driving beer" (on account of it being vile, weak piss). I used to drink it when I was 17 and used to blag my way into Staffs Uni student union (with a fake NUS card that said I was in the fourth year of a law degree 😂) because it was a quid a pint. I know better and have a reasonable level of disposable income these days though. There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever to drink fosters no matter how old you are you philistine😉

Not been the Hartshill one for a good while but the Tunstall, Fenton, and Oakhill branches are shite. Alright if you want 900 cans of fucking Carling but there's hardly anything 'non-mainstream' stocked in any of them. A four pack of Leffe is as left-field as it gets. Pfft. I can tolerate people. If i ever see people choosing to drink Carling i often think. What in gods name is fucking wrong with you. I cant help thinking it everytime i see it. No thanks. To be fair I don’t mind going for Carling because I can say it without thinking, which when I’m ruinously pissed at the bar and don’t want to risk the barman/woman/non-binary pineapple calling the bouncers over to chuck me out is very handy. I’m buggered the second I try and order a pint of Heikkeninen or Mirra Boretti.

I can see where you're coming from but drinking it still makes you sub-human scum.
Your reasoning does however remind me of a time that me and a colleague were politely asked to leave a hipster-ish hostelry in Manchester...
My associate was attempting to order another pint of Neck Oil, which as you may be aware, is produced by Beavertown. He was that fucking leathered however that the girl behind the bar thought he was repeatedly slurring "BEAVER NOW!" at her when attempting to place his order.
Doorstaff didn't take too kindly to employees being subjected to what they perceived as sexually aggressive threats 😂

If not the alley way leave quietly now. Couple of years ago i went to a Led Zeppelin tribute act at my local civic centre (was very good) my friend went to the bar as i sat in seats. He came back and said the only thing he could get us was pints of Carling. Ive never tasted piss. However if i ever have the misfortune of doing i bet it tastes like Carling. The best of it was i went to said bar next and they had bottles of Doombar and Newcy Brown in fridge. He must have missed those when ordering. No more Carling was drank thankfully.

Some tho can be ok. Especially on a really hot day.

I like a Moretti but it doesn’t resemble a lager. Peroni used to be nice up until about 5 years ago when it was bought by Asahi Breweries. Since then, the quality has decreased massively and majority of Peroni you get in the UK is now brewed in the UK and not imported. This variant (the kind you get in most pubs and supermarkets) has a foul, chemically element to it like Stella Artois has. It also gives you a seething headache the next day. Rather surprisingly, given that sticky floored music venues are not renowned for the quality of beer on offer, Stoke's very own Sugarmill seems to stock the imported Italian brewed version (if it says 'bottled in Bari' on the label then it's the original kind). It's about the only drinkable thing that place sells though. All that being said, Poretti trumps both Peroni and Moretti in the Italian lager stakes for me.

Sounds dangerous! Know what you mean about the difference between lager here and abroad. For example you can shift 8 pints of Stella in Belgium and be fresh as a daisy, do that over here and it writes you off for 24 hours.

That's what I first thought when I initially spied it - had a pint of it on draught in The Water Rats in that London a few years back and that was the first time I'd come across it in the UK. www.beerhawk.co.uk/birrifico-angelo-poretti-4-luppoli-lagerNot many places have it on tap round these parts though I don't think. That gin/craft place in Fenton that used to be the old post office does however.

Drinking abroad is different gravy, you can drink enough to topple an entire herd of sex-crazed white rhino’s, pass out at 4am and wake up at 9am as if you’ve been drip fed Lucozade and amphetamines and then carry on again. However if I have 5 pints of the sludge that’s brewed here I’m written off for the entirety of the next day, spooning a glass of water and paracetamol and actively wishing for the world to just end, before my sugars completely crash at about 5pm and then I eat the entire leg of doner meat from Marmaris before squeezing out a half-arsed wank and then falling asleep.

They used to do DAB a fantastic German lager, not sure if it's still going. I'm not a huge lager fan but that used to be good stuff. They have this on draught in The Artisan Tap and that Brü place in Stoke. It's a very good beverage indeed. I managed to get in Bru a couple of times before lockdown, I tend to bypass Hartshill and head straight down to 'Castle. Decent lagers are hard to find in my opinion but with all this craft, hipster bollocks there's definitely a niche to develop without ripping people off. I tend to find Dark Lagers are generally very good, but you have to hunt them down in this country. All that said on a baking hot day when the flags are cracking I have massive cravings for Holstein Pils. Years of drinking it in Harry's I think. I'm back on the sours and Newcy Brown now the weather's turning.

Artisan Tap have had a couple of Schwarzbiers and dunkel on in the not so distant past.
I find them a bit 'treacle-y' if I'm being honest - really struggle to drink more than two per session.
Same with some of the heavier fruit beers - was once served a pint of draught Kasteel Rouge (8% Belgian cherry beer) in The Congress, Longton after a good few jars of other things throughout the day. I struggled to see straight afterwards and the landlord bollocked the newbie bar staff member who served me as they're only supposed to serve it in halves 😂

Stout About It. ABV 5.2% £1.59 for a 440ml can from Aldi.
"A full creamy Stout with sweet hints of vanilla flavour".
It is a bit like drinking ice-cream.

Polished off a couple of bottles of Erdinger this evening whilst watching Champions League.
x4 for £6 from Tesco Trent Vegas.
Never really been a big drinker (usually one 'standard' sized session per week for the past 20 odd years) but reading back through this thread has hit home how much my drinking has increased during this whole lockdown shitshow.
Don't think there's any danger of me going full Ollie Reed or filling my shoes full of my own piss during work hours any time soon, but it does make you wonder that, if a moderate like me can ramp it up this much, how those with 'issues' have faired during this enforced period of sheer boredom and desolation?

Steadily working my way through the x4 tins of Beavertown Neck Oil and x4 tins of Blue Moon I got from Morrisons last night.
They do a 'Two for £10' offer on all four packs of 330ml cans - you can mix and match too and there's quite a good selection to choose from.
Done x4 Neck Oils so far...gonna have a rest for a bit before cracking the Blue Moon and settling in to watch New Order live at Ally Pally on Sky Arts at 9pm.
Maybe by that time I'll feel so extraordinary.

Me and the Mrs managed to get ourselves into the VIP viewing area (the better half works in 'the industry'* and called in a favour) and I found myself having a very drunk conversation with an equally inebriated Gary Aspden (of adidas originals fame) and Ian Wright. Top night all round apart from when it was kicking out time and we decided to eschew waiting in the torrential rain for the free shuttle bus from Ally Pally and get a taxi to Central London instead. Cost me about 55 quid to travel about the same distance as going from Stoke Wetherspoons to Keele University 😂 *not that industry, you fucking deviants

Anyone know which decent pubs are opening from tomorrow?
I've got my two hour government approved alcohol imbibing slot booked at Bottlecraft in Hanley this coming Saturday but would like to have a couple of jars on Wednesday evening (preferably somewhere that you don't have to book 6 weeks in advance and have a signed letter from Boris Johnson in order to have a strictly controlled pint or two).
Usually frequent Hartshill of a Wednesday but haven't seen any concrete information about what's open and what isn't. Artisan Tap has said it's opening but haven't stipulated whether a booking is required, whilst that Cask Bar place is also open but you must book in advance and it appears to only be open between 5pm - 8pm for some reason.
Victoria Inn at Basford is also open but you must book via their website but the website doesn't work.
What a fucking rigmarole (and it'll probably end up fucking snowing too 😂).

In fact Mark and Sarah (Made up names. Booked 7 tables so all there friends could join them. And thats me thinking of trying for a local pint. My phobia is queueing btw.
