Has anyone noticed that the Huddersfield chairmans comments about the pyramid clearly state “ We have been told by the government there will be no large gatherings until a vaccine “ So essentially that’s it as we expected until the season after next at the earliest. Keep guessing mr doom and gloom. The guy from Astro Zeneca on Marr yesterday was confident that the vaccine would be in production in September and that the UK have ordered 100million doses. Yes it's dependant on successful trials but lets be optimistic for once ffs. The season after next my backside. And just this morning the government ( loosely ) have said it could be months before fans return ....yep months

If it's season after next like the doom monger suggests then there won't even be any football being played bar elite Euro super league dross. Clubs will fold in their droves. I reckon we'll see crowds by early New Year.

And just this morning the government ( loosely ) have said it could be months before fans return ....yep months Yep. If it's season after next like the doom monger suggests then there won't even be any football being played bar elite Euro super league dross. Clubs will fold in their droves. I reckon we'll see crowds by early New Year. The way I look at it is how many steps forward will it take to get from where we are now to a position where tens of thousands of fans can gather in a football stadium, sit together in cramped plastic seats and mingle freely in a crowded concourse. Unfortunately, it's going to take a hell of a lot of steps forward in terms of loosening of restrictions before we can reach this point which is why I think it'll be next spring at the earliest unless there's an immediate and dramatic game changing development soon. There isn't really a half way house of a socially distanced solution. You can't force people to sit with gaps between because of complications with season tickets and the difficulty of enforcing it throughout a stadium. And then it's impossible to socially distance the walkways to the stadium, the queues at the turnstiles and inside the concourse itself. In practice it's not feasible, it would take too many staff and there wouldn't be enough buy in from supporters for the measures. So it's all or nothing. A complete return to how things were with may be a few small alterations and more cleaning in the stadium. Or empty stadiums. And with that in mind, I can't see a complete return any time soon.

I think the key to the return of fans
will be after they allow fans to attend non league games the team I watch regularly is Dereham Town the ground holds approximately 3000 on a good day they get around 250 so quite possible to spread out safely
Though the big problem with non league and division one and two is they are unable to afford the testing of players
I can see the championship and premiership starting mid to late August with no crowds

I reckon we'll see crowds by early New Year. I’ll go late November but Christmas at the latest The furlough scheme is out until October, so I think November is about right. It is apparently when a vaccine or a cure might be available, and that is absolutely key to mass gatherings.

Does anyone have any thoughts that if this season is to be concluded by way of playing it out then when will the new season start? i.e. is there likely to be no break in between as such? Just a curiosity really.

I wonder if they'll try and get a plan together to dicate the seasons around that. Which will ultimately mean FIFA and Qatar did all of this obviously!

BBC Radio 5 live 6.30pm news and sport looking briefly at the return of the Prem, about mid June, with the Championship following a week later.
They had a comment from Sam Vokes, saying how hard it was going to be to get fit again after lockdown.
So no surprise there. And this is news?

Yes it's dependant on successful trials but lets be optimistic for once ffs. The season after next my backside. Everybody's guessing at the moment of course, even the guy from Astra Zeneca. My own guess is that Benjaminbiscuit is likely to be right. Vaccines take a LONG time to invent, test, safety test, manufacture at scale, distribute and use. OK, so every big brain in every pharmaceutical company everywhere is working on this right now. The rewards for whichever company or country comes up with an effective vaccine first will be huge. But its by no means certain that AZ guy is right about production in September. Engineers, scientists and technical people tend to underestimate timescales and "look on the bright side." They have these traits because they need positive thinking as part of the problem solving brains they have that enable them to do their work. Even if we do get lucky and a vaccine is discovered quickly, we are in competition with literally every other country on the planet to buy it. If a UK university gets a workable vaccine first, great. If the Chinese or the US win the race, maybe it will take longer. Who knows. Its also possible that a vaccine will NEVER be discovered. The SARS virus was recognised in 2003.Seventeen years ago. There is still no vaccine. I hope the optimists are right, of course. But they may not be.
