He's the new Johnny Walters. He'll play every minute of every game for the next 3 years. This hasn’t aged well👀 I was just trying to add some amusement, I'm very sorry :-) Really pleased he's gone with Brown tonight, I hope it works out and he's the new Diouf.

Not in great form.
Seemingly the only alternative is Brown - who seems to be in MON's thought pretty much exclusively as an option further forward.
Asking far too much for him to play every second of every game this season, especially while his form continues to be erratic.
Strange that we haven't moved to bring in a free agent for cover.
The guy we were seemingly erroneously linked to, Kieron Freeman, is still available, as is Simpson. Little bit surprising we haven't seen any movement yet.
If Smith were to get a semi-serious injury, it'd be a bit of a problem.

I thought he was really poor again today and we were lucky Brentford’s passing was off tbh. They did exactly the same as Barnsley and it’s something the manager will be looking at you’d hope.

It was a mad gaping hole in our transfer business to not get genuine cover here. The lad is woefully out of form and the only viable alternative is to nullify our attack and the jury is out on whether that's a real goer in any case

We don't even know if Bauer's been named in our squad list, do we?
It's possible he has, but maybe unlikely.
Also, do we know how seriously he's training?
He must be way off the pace. Don't think he's figured for anyone, at any level, since about last Christmas - and that's what's probably going to make a loan move (even more) unlikely come January too!

Smith didn't play too well today against a decent opponent in Rico Henry. His crossing was particulary disappointing. He should still be first choice at RB.

Bauer is training away from the first team and O'Neill has basically said there's no way back for those experienced players who chose to go out on loan.
To be fair to Smith he was probably up against their best player today in that right wing back and much though I like Collins his lack of experience means that he doesn't always cover Smith so he's pretty much on his own against two if Brown is caught upfield.
You have to look at who he's playing against before slaughtering him. Now on Wednesday yes he was poor but he held up his hands for that one. He's even played all but one of the cup games as well I think so fatigue is going to come into his play. I've said before wing back is one of the most physically demanding positions to play. I suspect Brown or even Collins might have to share some of the burden.

McClean changed that on the left. Smith just can’t seem to get to grips with it.

He’s had a couple of below par games as has Clucas, Powell etc

Not one decent cross in today despite being in good positions under no pressure.
He was not awful but we need some competition for him for definite.

Much better when in a 4. He is but he’s being asked to play as a wing back which he’s not very good at. Not his fault is it, he’s a right back. Same as Powell being asked to play centre mid, he’s shite there, he’s a number ten plain and simple. Hence he had a poor run of games. Clucas is a goal scoring midfielder as proved last season, yet he’s been mopping up with Mikel, hence a poor run of games. Pattern emerging is the formation doesn’t suit the players and people are slagging the players off. 3 at the back has to be ditched but I guess going 3 up against Brentford means MON won’t change tactics any time soon

When all said and done we’ve had a steady start to the season and we have players capable of far better. Who knows where we can go when they all click, including Smith.
